A really enjoyable time spent down in Sussex throwing balls at @JohnSimpson_88 last week - great to get an insight into how he goes about his keeping, as well as some superb glove chat 🧤 – at Ascot, South East

That first ball is horrific!
Leicestershire decision understandably provoking plenty of reaction. Officials very wary of marking down pitches, such are these consequences. But a big difference between low-scoring decks that seam and surfaces that are verging on dangerous. These are consecutive deliveries:

INCREASE YOUR REACTIONS 📈 Ben Foakes level doesn’t happen overnight. Start deeper → get closer → repeat. Sharpens reactions without needing perfect throws 👌 Top work from Arjun!

CATCH THE COLOUR 🧤 3 plyo balls. Call the colour. Catch it. Forces good ball tracking, quick decisions & clean footwork - especially when moving down leg! Didn’t plan the headshot at the end… lucky they’re squishy 😂

This is absolutely incredible. It baffles me that international teams don’t have a keeping specialist.
Ben Foakes talking about England getting rid of Bruce French as wicket-keeping coach and having Keaton Jennings do it instead is staggering for a supposedly elite sporting team I find the logic baffling A really interesting interview thecricketer.com/Topics/prem…

A million replays, a literal umpire watching a screen. I’m not saying it’s right and he clearly forgot to shift the ball into the other hand, but you’ve got a million cameras on this - HOW IS NO ONE CHECKING
🚨 BROAD DAYLIGHT CHEATING BY PAKISTAN 🚨 - No one noticed, but this was not out, the ball was in Khawaja Nafay’s right hand, but he dislodged the bails with his left hand 😲 - Cooper Connolly walked away, but this was broad daylight cheating 🧐

How it feels to put the new @graynics gloves on round the house throughout the winter!

CATCHING IN THE RECTANGLE 🧤 Within this rectangle, our hands and arms shouldn’t necessarily need to move at all. Our weight transfer and drive up does it all for us!

TWO TIPS FOR LEG SIDE 🧤 Two big things that you need to do to master the leg side like Ahmar here:

BONUS TIP ⬇️⬇️⬇️ What Ahmar does brilliantly here is, as soon as he sees it go down leg, he takes a little step to prepare himself to go. This then allows for easy transfer of weight and a quick snap.

REMEMBER - SMALL STEP; BIG SNAP Super hour spent with Ahmar who came all the way from Ireland for a session!

HEAD JUST PAST THE LINE 🧤 If we can get our head in line or just past the line of the ball down the leg side once we’ve completed the take, we should on the way to making great takes like this one!

Starting position key, especially hips. Pant’s hips sit below his knee making him very upright. Jurel hips just above knee line so his head can drive forwards. The more upright you are the more your weight will go backwards
This is what I meant when I said Pant would have dropped the catch of Pope. I still think Pant is a great test batsman but he is a very poor wicket-keeper. Dhruv Jurel has been fantastic till now with the gloves 👏. #ENGvIND #INDvsENG

Simpson, Bracey, Robinson, Rew, Brown, McManus, Guest, Cox all quality keepers (and I’m sure I’ve missed a few!) And they can all bat which is a bonus for any side.
Largely undisputed that Ben Foakes is the best out-and-out glove man in the Country currently….. But who is the 2nd best?? Not keeper-batter but pure Wicketkeeping ability? 🧤
