Got to love Senegal👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾✊🏾📌
🌍 Impressive story and stats behind the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony:
▪️ 1,115 performers, including 628 dancers
▪️ Nearly 1,500 costumes produced through more than 5,000 hours of work, highlighting the skills of Senegalese designers, tailors and craftspeople
▪️ A celebration of 🇸🇳 Senegal's tradition of teranga, or hospitality, through a journey connecting Africa's past, present and future. Centred on the three symbolic characters – Alkebulan, Keb and Sitoé – the performance explored the passing on of cultural heritage between generations and the role of young people in shaping the continent's future.
▪️ Traditional Senegalese dance, wrestling and percussion featured alongside contemporary music, hip-hop and visual arts.
▪️ Performances by Senegalese artists Baaba Maal, Kiné Lam and Daara J Family were complemented by contributions from Nigerian slamming artist IB Quake and Gambian kora musician Sona Jobarteh, reflecting the diversity of African cultural expression.
▪️ A tribute to the continent's 54 countries celebrated unity and shared heritage.
▪️ Senegalese-born social media personality Khaby Lame also featured in a live-painting sequence by artist Boubou Design, whose portrait of Sitoé symbolised the aspirations of a new generation and Africa's future.

They say we romanticize Africa. But Africa is so rich in heritage, history, culture, resources, and natural beauty. How can I not romanticize a continent with so much to admire, appreciate, and learn from?
I don't romanticize Africa by pretending it has no challenges. I simply refuse to let its challenges overshadow its brilliance. Africa deserves to be seen beyond the narratives of poverty, conflict, and struggle that have dominated global perceptions for generations.
This is Senegal 🇸🇳. This is culture. This is beautiful!
