2025 marked Activant’s 10th year in business. It’s felt like a year where a lot of our hard work has come together and looking back there are quite a few of highlights: • Feb — Tines Series C • Feb — Sardine Series C (doubling down) • Feb — Metronome Series C • April — Truework exit to Checkr • April — Velocity Pre-Seed • April — Emma joined the team • May — Pallet Series B (doubling down) • May — Owner.com Series C (tripling down) • June — Launched Systems of Intelligence v1 (more coming in 2026) • June — Aibidia Series B • July — Ekho Series A • July — Teddy & Malek joined the team • Aug — XOPS Series A • Aug — David & Nicole joined the team • Sept — 10-Year Anniversary AGM • Sept — Genesis Summit 2 • Sept — Cardless Series C (tripling down) • Sept — micro1 Series A • Sept — Ross & Torben joined the team • Oct — Activant Aurelius AI v3 launch • Nov — Opened the Activant SF office • Nov — Stuut Series A (doubling down) • Dec — Metronome unicorn+ exit to Stripe • Dec — Airwallex Series G • Dec — Activant Research published its 25th piece of 2025 Fundraises don’t define success, but what’s behind these milestones is real growth from our portfolio companies doing the hard work every day. The same is true of team Activant - this momentum is being earned in the trenches, through persistence and taking nothing for granted. And it builds a firm DNA that’s uncannily similar to the founders we back. As the year hits the home straight, I wanted to pause and appreciate the last decade, the teams we’re lucky to partner with, and the Activant team that brings the heat every day. Bring on 2026.

This is a good explanation of what we do at @gen_intuition, and why it’ll be a big unlock. We train general agents who are great at pixels to actions, partially using world models as a way to scale data and capabilities. If you’re interested in joining us, reach out!

Massive from team @messagebird! Bird already powers an insane amount of the world's comms and this agent harness is battle tested at scale. Watch this space.
Bird secures $450M and opens its infrastructure to AI agents. Debt financing led by J.P. Morgan. Still private and independent. Meet Agentic Harness: agents can email, use WhatsApp, make calls—even get their own eSIM. What would you build with it?

History will tell the story. We’ll keep building.
When I joined Twitter it was early and people told me it was a strange move and the company would never make money. I personally believed that where the internet met culture was interesting. That worked out. When I joined Coinbase in late 2017 people told me crypto was for criminals. Some of the smartest engineers and investors I knew saw the potential to build an entirely new layer of financial infrastructure. I liked that Coinbase was choosing to build the safe compliant bridge between fiat and crypto. That turned OK too. The work I have always found most interesting is closing the gap between what is true about a company, its founders and its products, and what people think they know about them. We will not always get everything right but it is a privilege to help tell the @airwallex story at this moment because the truth about what the team is building is awesome, you will see. You should follow: @awxjack @shannonscott @kdotai001 @awxlucy @PranavkSood We have work to do! airwallex.com/en-us/blog/the…

Jev vs. Claude vs. Rules: We ran a real fraud ring through all three. The headline result is that Jev classified best at 93% recall, followed closely by the velocity rules our Data Analyst Agent proposed at 90%, with an LLM making the classification decision trailing at 62%. This shows Jev is great at reasoning and classification jobs compared to LLMs. The fact that Jev was so close to a Data Analyst agent (which could write multiple SQL queries to investigate the fraud ring) is the real finding. Classification in code was already near-optimal, and Jev matched it. Read more in the article: xitter.cf/soupsranjan/status/210…

🚨 We trained a large language model on 2B+ card transactions and it caught 35% more fraud. Like the labs train models on words, we can train models on transactions. To do that, the model has to read a transaction like it reads a word. So each transaction gets broken into its parts: - Who the merchant is - What it sells - How much moved - Which channel it came through - How long since this customer last transacted These models are pattern matching machines. Claude “predicts” the next word in a sentence whereas our trained model predicts the next transaction a customer might make. Repeat this across billions of transactions, and the model builds a detailed sense of what normal looks like for each individual customer. We never told the model which transactions were fraud. We don’t want it chasing fraud directly. What we want is for it to learn what ordinary spending looks like, so anything off-pattern becomes instantly recognizable. For any given transaction, the model produces 2 things: 1. A compact numerical summary of everything the customer has done up to that point, which in machine learning is called an embedding. 2. A "surprise" score. Basically, a measure of how unexpected this particular transaction looks given the customer's history. We trained a foundation model that discovers the language of transactions. Every person has their own dialect that they speak, and the embedding we built discovers the family of dialects that describe payments. The holy grail here is to take the foundation model and apply it to a brand new client (whose data was not in training set). That's what we did and had amazing results: Across every threshold we tested, adding the embeddings caught 24% to 35% more fraud. At a common operating point, where the riskiest 1% of transactions get flagged for action, the improvement was 28%. Our AI team wrote an entire blog post about it that digs into specifics, drawbacks, and our methodology: sardine.ai/blog/foundation-m… We are also publishing a whitepaper titled ‘Building a foundation risk model’ that I’ll talk about more here in the coming weeks. Follow for more on this process. One important note to end on - we didn't replace our scoring model with a neural network. Our issuing model already scores every transaction using gradient-boosted decision trees, built with XGBoost, and running on 77 features we've engineered over the years. The new embeddings were simply added to it as extra features, and then we retrained the same XGBoost model on the larger set. Again, more specifics in the blog than I can fit here. I’m incredibly encouraged by this progress, both for @sardine and the entire fraud & fincrime fighting community.

Muse is out today. An agent like this is a different kind of system to design. It reads your mail, spends your money, runs your code. Getting that right took real care, and our technical post walks through exactly how. We designed security in.

What a team. Let’s go @owner
Owner has raised $240M, reached a $2.3B valuation, and crossed $100M ARR. Goldman Sachs Alternatives led the round, joined by Meritech, Redpoint, Headline, & Jack Altman. The world is racing to build AI to replace people’s jobs. Owner is building AI to do the opposite:

We’ve raised $320M at an $11B valuation, led by Addition. AI is changing how companies are built. Teams are smaller, global from day one, and using agents more. We’ve spent 10 years building the financial rails for that world. We’re now building the intelligent layer on top.

Anyone within 6 ft of me has heard me chew their ear off on @dreamer. Today billions will get to experience it as Dreamer joins Meta. So proud to have been on this journey with the Dreamer team. @dps, @hbarra, @alcor, and the team have ignited my creativity and shown how powerful and fun the next operating system will be. Doing it alongside a legend of Irish tech is the cherry on top. Cheers to team Dreamer. It’s been a heck of a ride since this cheeky pint at the seed.
