Amy Acton's estranged mother lost custody of her children after her second husband was charged with rape and indicted by a grand jury. In court, Amy's mother stood by her husband instead of her twelve-year-old daughter. They haven't spoken since that day in court, nearly 50 years ago.
Politics has become such a disappointing sport of outrage-fueled mud-slinging, personal attacks targeting families, and blatant lies designed to divide. Candidates should debate the issues and focus on convincing voters that their plans and leadership will make life better. That's what politics should be about: bringing people together. Stunts like today's attack ad against Dr. Acton are beneath anyone seeking to lead. nytimes.com/2026/10/20/us/po…

You know a hurricane is bad when there are now 53 Waffle Houses closed across Florida and Alabama already...

The tornado risk for tonight just went up, and it's highest from Panama City to Tallahassee as Isaias comes in. On Saturday it moves across Georgia into South Carolina. They come fast and some come after dark, so have a way to get warnings that will wake you up.

I am VERY concerned about this zone from Panama City to Tallahassee to Dothan, Alabama and Albany, Georgia. I actually think the impacts here may be more significant than in the eyewall.
Isaias's core is going to pass to the west, probably closer to Mobile or Gulf Shores (or even Pensacola). To the east, however, it will swirl robust tropical moisture northward and pinwheel a string of thunderstorms ashore.
High-resolution computer models suggest a feeder band (strip of downpours/thunderstorms swirling into Isaias) will take aim at the highlighted region for between 18 and 24 hours. Rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are possible in the heaviest downpours within this band. I could easily see a narrow strip of 10 to 22+ inches of rain falling, causing locally significant to extreme flash flood cocerns.
If you find yourself under a flash flood emergency, it's a time to move IMMEDIATELY to the highest point you reasonably, and safely, can.
Models simulate plentiful convergence, or gathering/colliding air. When air is squeezed together, it is pushed upwards. That lifts moisture upwards into storms. That moisture then falls as extremely heavy rain.
Meanwhile, I also expect some tornadoes in this area, and the chance of an isolated significant (EF2+) tornado. Changing winds with height will help thunderstorm cells to rotate, and several tornadoes are possible. Machine learning models are highlighting this region too.
On Saturday afternoon, the threat will shift north toward Valdosta.
If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter in an interior room away from windows as low as you can be without putting yourself at risk of flooding.

Latest Wednesday NHC 5pm track update. Isaias strengthening. Pressure 994mb. Winds 65mph. Track bumped east again. Still expected to become 110mph. Some weakening before landfall. NHC mentions CAT 1/2 on most models for landfall. Hurricane Watches now extend inland (pink). Tropical Storm watches (yellow). spaghettimodels.com
Okay, Tallahassee... here comes my preparedness speech. 😏
First: STOP OBSESSING OVER THE CONE.
The cone shows where the CENTER of the storm is most likely to travel. It does not show the entire area that can experience impacts. Tallahassee can absolutely see tropical-storm conditions and other impacts even if the center stays well west of us.
As of the latest NHC update, Tropical Storm Isaias has 45 mph sustained winds, is moving ENE at 8 mph, and is expected to rapidly strengthen and become a hurricane Thursday. Hurricane and storm surge watches are already up for portions of the northern Gulf Coast.
And this one matters for us because impacts are expected to be lopsided to the east of the center. NWS Tallahassee is already highlighting the potential for heavy rain, flooding, wind and tornadoes across our region. The shear as it is predicted could be conducive to increased tornadic activity.
Also, we have already had A LOT of rain. The ground is saturated and trees and limbs have been taking a beating. You do not need hurricane-force winds to bring down a tree when the soil around the roots is waterlogged. Not to mention those limbs!! I lost power last night for several hours from a tree/limb situation, and Isaias wasn't even here yet. So please pay attention to trees around your house and where you park.
Do the boring preparedness stuff now:
• Charge your phones and battery packs.
• Check flashlights and batteries.
• Make sure you have medications.
• Get some cash.
• Fill up the car.
• Secure loose outdoor stuff.
• Have food and water for people AND pets. (1 gal, per person/pet per day)
• Know where you'll go in your house if we get a tornado warning.
• Don't drive through flooded roads. Don't play in them either! Lots of things you cannot see underwater, not to mention the public health risk.
• And for the love of hurricane snacks, do not wait until everyone in Tallahassee collectively decides they need bottled water at the exact same time. Get the good snacks!
No panic. No grocery-store cage match. Just prepare, pay attention, and get your information from reliable sources.

And one more time for the people zooming in on that black line:
THE CONE IS NOT A FORCE FIELD.
The professor has spoken. 😂 And seriously, if you have any questions about preparedness or anything EM/disaster related, shoot me a message. If I don't know the answer, I'll do my best to find out.
