Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.
Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise.
Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers.
Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.
Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

🚨Wayne Rooney reacts to Manchester United’s humiliating 3–0 defeat to Bournemouth:
🗣️Rooney: “I watched that and felt sick. A group of players who looked like they couldn’t be bothered, a team with no identity, no fight and no idea what they’re supposed to be, and a club that has spent over a decade actively destroying everything that made it special. That’s what this 3–0 humiliation at home to Bournemouth actually was.
I feel for Michael. I really do. Deep down he knows this is probably the end for him. You can see it in his face. He’s a good lad, a proper United man, and he’s been handed a squad that doesn’t have the character or the quality to compete. But let’s stop pretending he’s the problem. He isn’t. Manchester United’s crisis starts right at the top — with the people who keep making the same catastrophic decisions, the same disastrous recruitment, the same lack of any clear direction year after year. This club has been in institutional decline since Sir Alex left, and every new manager is just another scapegoat for the people who actually run the place.
Look at that performance today. From the first whistle there was no urgency. Bournemouth scored from a set piece because half the team switched off. Then Yoro slips over in his own box and they walk it in. Then the goalkeeper comes charging out and gets done from a ridiculous angle. That’s not tactics. That’s a team that has no defensive organisation, no concentration, and no pride. When things go wrong, there is zero response. No leaders. No one grabbing the game. Just players standing around looking sorry for themselves while the fans who pay their wages are left embarrassed.
And this squad… some of these players are among the most embarrassing I’ve ever seen wear that shirt. The mentality is soft. The quality in big moments is nowhere near the standard this club used to demand. The character is missing. They care more about themselves than the badge. You saw it with the comments this week. They throw their toys out of the pram the second they’re criticised and then put in a performance like this. It’s pathetic.
People will scream for Carrick to be sacked. Fine. Do it. But don’t kid yourselves it changes anything. You could appoint the best manager in world football tomorrow morning and this club would still be a mess. Because the problems run far deeper than tactics or formations. The structure is broken. The recruitment is broken. The standards are gone. The accountability is non-existent. The same cycle of failure repeats every single season while the people at the top hide behind the next manager they can hang out to dry.
This club has lost its identity. It used to be about winning, about standards, about never accepting second best. Now it’s about excuses, soft players, and a revolving door of managers who get blamed for a mess they didn’t create. Supporters are being forced to watch the same collapse over and over again, and it’s painful because we all remember what this club used to be.
Until the people running Manchester United finally look in the mirror and accept responsibility for the mess they’ve created, the suffering will continue. No matter who is standing on the touchline.

Manchester United Football Club.
A football club only works when the sum of its parts is greater than any one human.
At Manchester United that worked ruthlessly well for 20 years.
You can then trace when the rot started.
1. Calling Moyes "Everton". Big time players started to call the shots. That Moyes wasn't up to it is irelevant, the sum of the parts mantra was broken.
2. Ronaldo return. Always about 1 player in pressers, never about the team.
3. The piano playing decadence of Alexis reveal. City announce Haaland in a bland statement. United went full Liberace to "prove" how big they were. Clubs on top don't need to prove anything. They just do.
4. Numerous managers, sporting directors, organisational changes. Villa gave Emery the key to Villa Park and Bodymoor Health and said "you're the expert, we'll bring in your guys". 90% worked, 10% didn't. The 10% exited without fuss. United? Every name is a part of the circus.
5. Leaks. If you're supposed to be the worlds biggest club, you don't leak to Partridge type YouTubers or local journos. Chose players and their character carefully.
6. Fergie. Liverpool ruthlessly moved Shankly well away from Anfield, to the dismay of many. Romantics rightly said " WTF, it's him who started this!". Liverpool board and Boot Room said, "Move him out, he's only ever going to be a distraction". Proved true. The cameras panning to Fergie every game did United no favours. Why? Nobody could compete with that man.
7. Owners. When you allow owners in who only want to use you as collateral ( Hi Mr Big Banker, we own Man United so we're good for the fucking huge loan we want for something else) in a transaction, you're fucked. A lesson that even the biggest clubs are prone to chasing the dollar from anyone and everyone. Time to protect all of our clubs from rogue ownership.
8. Four four fucking two. Attack attack attack. Sometimes, in order to find yourself you need to go back to your roots. United play attacking, swaggering football. Buy two great wide men. Two mobile and aggressive midfielders. One ball playing, one aggressive central defender. Two fullbacks who only defend and a keeper who commands his box. Basics. United do that and even now all the people, characters, noise can be boiled down to basics that at first grind out badic results as the mess above gets dealt with. Basics. Painfully simple ones.
Manchester United Football Club are one of the world's biggest acting like a lost army after a great General left the batallion.
Find your General , on the pitch, in the dugout, at the head of the company, then green shoots will follow.
Sometimes, simplicity is everything and complexity is ruinous. The club believed its own hype instead of following its own DNA.

One of the most powerful videos I’ve ever seen as a United supporter. The shift in atmosphere as soon as Carrick goes down the tunnel is exactly what the players need to hear. 👏

"Sell United and f*k off home" sing MUFC fans, the only good thing about the club right now.
And it's right. The Glazers have made their money many times over for 21 years. Fans never wanted it and that takeover should never have been allowed. Do the right thing: sell up and go.
