My induction had: Trust values ✅ Aseptic non touch technique ✅ Blood transfusion update ✅ Meanwhile, they didn't have: ID badges ready ❌ Computer logins ready ❌ If our amazing manager hadn't fixed it we'd be useless staff who knew the importance of #BeKind...
Sessions my induction has: Hand washing teaching ✅ How to use a pat slide ✅ An hour on fire safety ✅ Things it doesn’t have: A tour of the hospital ❌ Where we go for handover ❌ How the on call system works ❌ My first shift is weekend ward cover on Sat… fun!

Fascinating.... A lot of insight to what it's like to be a new trainee in anaesthesia peri-pandemic... Whatever region this is should be appalled by the training they provided.
My perspective on AAs; a 🧵 I was an ANP before medical school and am now a specialty doctor in anaesthetics. I work with 2 qualified AAs who are excellent, I am often asked for my opinion given my background, so here it is a long thread including my own story.

Still inspired by the incredible resilience and leadership that has been demonstrated.
Regardless of opinion on the Doctors offer Absolute credit to @RobLaurensonD4P, @_VivekTrivedi and the rest of the @BMA_JuniorDocs for everything they've done so far

This is simply staggering. Far from ‘not replacing’ doctors, PAs are being used as doctor substitutes in all manner of hospital on-call rotas. Worse - doctors are even being substituted by *trainee* PAs. This is a patient safety disaster. Please intervene, @wesstreeting.
From Dec 23 to April 24, there were 72 shifts on doctors rotas that were taken by PAs in the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust These were in ED and for ENT Alarmingly, 2 were taken by Trainee PAs. Yes trainee PAs An excerpt from the FOI response of the shifts taken I am sure they will be moving to 'tiered rotas' soon

Wonder if this has anything to do with GSTT and Kings only using O- for several weeks post the ransomware attack.
🩸 Blood shortage Amber alert 🩸 The @NHS urgently needs O type blood. There are over 12000 appointments available over the next 2 weeks that we need your help to fill. If you are an O type donor call 0300 123 23 23 to make an appointment or visit orlo.uk/bPTiE

Great news! Manifold leak of nitrous oxide was >95% of the entire @RoyalSurrey used when I audited it in 2023. A ridiculous contribution to atmospheric pollution with no benefit to anyone. @RSCHAnaesthesia
We recommend all nitrous oxide manifolds are decommissioned and that point-of-use cylinders are used where access to nitrous oxide remains desirable. NEW consensus statement with @Assoc_Anaes, @COAIrl, @OAAinfo, @APAGBI Read our statement: 🔗 ow.ly/fyO850SJSs4

An absolutely scathing indictment of the associate project from one of the few people absolutely qualified to have an opinion Thank you for speaking up @Adam_Skeen and if you’re a 🇬🇧 doctor not worried about professional standards, you should read this! bmj.com/content/386/bmj.q158…

Lot of 'thick person's idea of a smart person' here. He means melanin not melatonin men have X chromosones too, and a pyyrhic victory is not ever something you aim for, it's an unintended effect. Like pivoting from sex pest to political guru, perhaps.

Really good thread by @mancunianmedic - the person I wanted to be PRCP (but respect and understand the reasons why he could not)
you are absolutely right that the top brass at the RCP (and other places with clout like NHSE) very suspicious of social media, don't *get* it and don't want to engage with it and this is one reason they ran into so much difficulty

.@JeanetteRCR You're going to have to square this circle. PAs are not doctors on the cheap?
Someone from @AoMRC on @BBCr4today pressed on PA role as cheap doctor replacements - failed to respond to interviewer or doctor concerns. Surely they’re not so oblivious? Are they the useful idiots for government’s plans to devalue the medical profession? @mmamas1973 @drmattuk @Xeon4f145d96s1 @djnicholl @ShrillaB @trishgreenhalgh @DrSteveTaylor @MrTimLane @TomStocks1982 @RobLaurensonD4P @TheDA_UK @DrEilidhMaria @veggieequallife @parthaskar @DrSelvarajah

This is the sort of consultant I want to be with courage and integrity 🇬🇧 medicine is a nightmare for both patients and doctors because the wrong people are making horrible decisions A must read thread about someone trying to make a difference that should inspire us all 🙏
Replying to @mouseter_chef
It is difficult as I have failed. I have failed as things I said would happen have still happened and that brings no joy or satisfaction but sadness, and, yes, some anger. To answer your question as best as I can I will firstly say it is complex and the system is set against 1/

This is a terrible political decision, which will cause incredible harm to trans people. Prescribing decisions should be for clinicians with patients (and families), not politicians. The ban should be reversed. 🧵
Puberty Blockers. A 🧵  Children’s healthcare must always be led by evidence.  Medicine given to children must always be proven safe and effective first. I know there’s lots of fear and anxiety.  Let me explain why this decision was taken. 1/9

Some food for thought on the debate of the #pubertyblocker ban. These are good questions that @wesstreeting should be able to defend if he's going to follow the Tory's, in what I suspect was an attack driven by their culture war.
