Just like woke, they never seem to have a consistent definition lol
Trump supporter: “We don’t need socialism in this country”
Jason Selvig: “And what is socialism?”
TS: “Look what the Democrats are doing. They’ll raise your taxes. They don’t give a shit about the American people”
JS: “And what is socialism?”
TS: “Look what they’re doing to America. You have all these environmentalist people, they stopped drilling oil wells”
JS: “And what is socialism?”
TS: “Well look what the Democrats are doing, it’s plain and simple”
JS: “But what is the definition of socialism?”
TS: “I don’t need to go into big words or whatever. I’m just telling you, we don’t need it in America”
The culture war BS is useless noise distracting from the fact that consoles and games are becoming more expensive, physical media is disappearing, and gaming companies gleefully claiming you won’t own your games in the future.
Wokeness doesn’t kill games, capitalism does.

"corporations exist to generate revenue."
Some of the most glaring flaws in late Bioware games were a direct consequence of this mindset.
You people are so obsessed with meaningless culture war issues that you're completely oblivious to glaring issues in the game industry.

"Capitalism creates innovation"
No, it fucking doesn't.
Said "innovation" is just creating ways to squeeze out more and more money out of you. While the product quality decreases, the price only increases.

People defending EA’s mismanagement practices just because “BioWare done” and “it’s da end of da LGBT” is certainly a choice. I thought people with a functioning brain generally hated EA’s meddling and studio interference? We’ve spent years slamming EA for fumbling Dead Space, yet suddenly we’re supposed to ignore the publisher that was literally voted “Worst Company in America” two times in a row.
A healthy studio releasing a bad game is one thing. A studio stripped down, hemorrhaging talent, and having its resources squeezed until there’s barely anything left is another. There’s a difference between a studio failing on its own merits and a publisher systematically undermining the people working under it.
As usual…it’s Twitter. Conversations like this are apparently too nuanced for small, agenda-driven minds. That’s why I told someone, “Hey, man, I don’t want to have this conversation with you until you get out of the conspiracy zone.”
What interests me is the why. I want to understand the facts and circumstances behind these situations, and time and time again, we see examples of EA mismanaging studios, interfering with their creative direction, or simply letting beloved IPs die on the vine. And honestly, I never expected things to improve under the Saudi acquisition.
I knew this would ultimately lead to having to play it safe and EA shitting out another Star Wars game as quickly as possible rather than prioritize Mass Effect. This is what happens when you choose short-term profits over creative growth and long-term sustainability. BioWare has been struggling for years, but the question remains: who repeatedly put the studio in this position in the first place? EA.
Ultimately, I believe BioWare is a victim of its own publisher. I will never forgive EA for what it did to Visceral Games, the original Dead Space studio, or Pandemic Studios, the team behind Destroy All Humans! Ever.
This shouldn’t be about celebrating a studio’s downfall. If that’s what you’re doing, you’re engaging in destructive criticism rather than actually examining the situation. And if you turn everything into another culture-war talking point, you’re approaching the conversation with a one-track mindset that leaves little room for nuance or a deeper examination of EA’s own failures.
It’s about looking at the bigger picture and holding the people responsible for these decisions accountable. But apparently, that’s too much to ask when people would rather push an agenda than to have an honest, meaningful conversation.

Reminder:
- EA cancelled the Single Player Dragon Age 4 in development from 2015-2017
- Pushed them to create a live service Dragon Age because of trend chasing. They considered multiplayer the future of gaming, "nobody plays single player games anymore" except then Jedi Fallen Order released with huge success and they pivoted again.
- After 3 years of development on Live Service Age from 2018-2021, EA & Bioware decide to remove the Multiplayer component but instead of rebooting a second time they gave them 18 months to rip out all that live service work and have them make it a single player game AGAIN, at a significant disadvantage to meet expectations.
- Six years of wasted development now, when a lot of the series veterans had been laid off or quit out of frustration with EA along with numerous management and staff changes. Among these names are David Gaider, Mike Laidlaw, and later before Veilguard's release Mary Kirby. Her departure was an abysmal sign for the future of DA before this next game had even released.
- This resulted in the announcement of Dragon Age Dreadwolf in 2022, later renamed Veilguard which retained the scars of it's live service development when it released in 2024 and was never the true game Bioware would have given us if they hadn't been constantly fucked around.
We could and should have had the intended Dragon Age 4 before 2020, instead it took almost a DECADE for the follow up.
The worst things these companies do is trend chase something, with zero foresight on temporary trends. By the time you release that game public opinion has shifted. Rocksteady's Suicide Squad as a clear example of this too.
Just let creative people make something they are passionate about and stop putting them in boxes. Let developers make something real by giving them time and resources to deliver something memorable with a clear goal, not a post mortem example like Anthem on how not to develop a game.
EA has been fucking over Bioware basically since they acquired them. Issues with Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard aside as yes all three have their issues and you'll even have people going back to Mass Effect 3/DA2/Inquisition with issues as well; a lot of this comes from a long long period of EA pushing Bioware into a corner and then watching them be a punching bag for it. It also comes from internal schisms within Bioware where there was a strange Mass Effect vs Dragon Age rift and David Gaider said they may as well have been two different studios with how the culture was different, plus the writers getting fucked over at every turn.
People taking the lowest hanging fruit possible and are gonna just say it was Veilguard, it was Anthem, it was Andromeda etc that sealed their fate when in actual reality it was a long list of issues going back 15+ years that led to the issues within those games in the first place.

The anti-woke brigade cheering the closure of BioWare while being totally OK with EA being sold to Saudi Arabia couldn’t be a better representation of how they literally stand on nothing besides sticking it to the “libs”.
Persephone’s redesign is now complete! Thanks again to my good friend @SarinaVail for this masterpiece! You’ve knocked it out of the park again!
