In honor of May the 4th here’s page one of my Padme Amidala resurrection story
While everyone’s talking about #RevengeOfTheSith here’s my spec script - what if Padme Amidala survived?

Great points from @davidsirota. It is not about “fresh faces” to “meet the moment” that people are demanding. Nor is it about a need for “bold policy.” Those are all ways of neutralizing the actual demand, which is simply to remove corruption from power, so that undiluted policy can be passed.

Never let anyone tell you that their vote doesn’t matter. It’s coming down to the wire in LA.

Keep calling! It seems inevitable, until it isn’t.
These numbers are going up, by the way: A Democratic House staffer told me their office got nearly 800 calls about Jeffries on Friday alone.
Most of the staffers I'm talking to describe this as the most call volume they've ever experienced. axios.com/2026/11/06/jeffrie…

Hakeem Jeffries cannot be allowed to be Speaker of the House. All socialists must oppose him now and strike while the iron is hot to oust him.

When Democrats have the power, we have to use it.
Universal childcare. Paid leave. Medicare for All. Abolishing ICE.
No more incrementalism or moderating our aspirations.
We need to do the work of repair, restoration, and reconstruction.

All kinds of retribution. He'll try to put you on a bad committee where you have no leverage. He'll make sure no money goes to your district. He'll make sure your legislation never gets a floor vote and will work to block others from co-sponsoring it.
Basically, he'll try to make you a pariah in Congress. So I understand why new members would be afraid to go against him! But flip side is - anyone who does do it will be an instant hero nationally and can use that popular power to overcome whatever retribution Jeffries does.
Replying to @saikatc
Serious question: could you explain the “risk” of coming out in opposition to Jeffries?

Yup. The desire to oust Chuck Schumer, but not Hakeem Jeffries makes no political or pragmatic sense. Both men are AIPAC-bought; corporate-first; pro-ICE; anti-Med4All Dems w/super-low favorability ratings of 24% & 28%. There is no substantive distinction between them.
I’m sorry, but everyone focusing on ousting Schumer, including AIPAC Cory Booker, suggests to me that Schumer is being held out as a sacrifice to make it look like progress is being made when, in fact, he was on his way out anyway. I’m highly suspicious of those who are all in on ousting Schumer but silent on Jeffries.

Reminder that Democrats never win by convincing Republicans to vote for them, they win by convincing people who aren’t usually politically active to get politically active.
