>Millenarianism, a belief that we are on the cusp of a total transformation of society, is a known way that people go crazy on the contrary, the “end of the world” is a highly convergent belief that shows up in every generation, and seems to keep people sane / lets them find purpose in a complex world. if the world is ending, it makes your next steps very clear: you better do everything you can to stop it from ending, and if that’s not possible you need to make things right for when you meet your Maker

Epic accidental freeze-frame of @wintonARK

The key to solving political division is actually quite simple: accept that people have different political opinions and that doesn't make them evil.

My intuition is that consciousness is required for true creativity, and that AI will either never be conscious or will not be conscious for a long time. Therefore, what is not going to be automated for a long time is creativity.

Grok @bot just helped me save $470 by canceling my LegalZoom registered agent service (something I no doubt would have forgotten about until it had auto renewed) and making me the registered agent.

say it with me now. experts are fake, smart generalists rule the world, everything is designed by people no smarter than you, and courage is in shorter supply than genius

Interesting
On the one hand, I think a strong case can be made that we have made much less progress on AI capabilities than many assume. Frontier AI systems still struggle to learn from limited examples, learn continually from experience, and interact effectively with the physical world. More broadly, their competence is highly uneven. Superhuman performance on tasks they excel at (e.g., maths and coding, where training data can be generated at scale) doesn’t mean they will excel at the much messier tasks involved in most white-collar work. On the other hand, nobody should find this assessment that comforting. It suggests there is vast room to improve the capabilities of existing systems by changing their design and algorithms. In other words, we could have vastly more powerful systems with the same amount of computing power. Given that many of the world’s smartest people, assisted by already very capable AI systems and backed by vast resources, are working to accelerate AI research and development, even those sceptical of the current paradigm need to be prepared for the possibility of explosive change once certain capabilities are cracked.

i love writing. i never let agents write for me. whether it's docs, or tweets, or shitposts, or even prompts (okay maybe that one's harder as agents manage other agents) there's a simple reason for that: i still strongly believe that writing is thinking. it's a skill i hope to never give up. it's also important to me that whatever i say is always authentic, mistakes and all. my favorite posts are the ones that i just full send without any editing i suspect it also helps with prompting. being able to clearly express what i want, and knowing the vocabulary i need to be able to direct my agents does seem to make for more effective usage of agents. in the same way that engineers have an advantage when we prompt agents to write code, because we are intimately familiar with the words that make up the discipline knowing the right word incantations to get an agent to produce a desired goal almost feels like spellcasting. as models get more capable, and that input box looks more and more like a magic box that can output anything, words become the interface between you and the genie there may come a time when we give up the keyboard in exchange for brain-computer interfaces. but until then, i'm writing every word.

New parents: don’t worry that your kid is a psychopath. They are.

Called it.
I think this is going to bomb. The people who like Musk won’t go see it and the people who hate Musk aren’t going to watch 4 hours of the guy! Seems like a better strategy would have been to take a nuanced, even-handed approach more like @WalterIsaacson did.

Macrohard. Email is just the beginning
Grok Bot now has its own email. Bot can use it to sign up for services, contact businesses for you, or schedule time with someone.

Mostly an intuition that biological life has innate value that cannot be artificially replicated. But I’m far from certain, and what creeps me out are the people on here who *already* seem eager to permanently cede the rights of known living things (humans, animals, biosphere) in a misguided worship of something that is only a mimicry of life. “Beware false idols” persisted in the bible for good reason!
Replying to @Liv_Boeree
Why do you say AIs probably aren’t sentient?

It’s so weird and ironic when people who hate Elon Musk fixate on whether or not he was a “founder” of Tesla. At best they are just committing the inverse “crime” that he is allegedly committing. “He pretends to be a founder, why is he so obsessed with this?” Why are you so obsessed with this? Who cares who founded a company? Ok so he didn’t found it, that presumably means he doesn’t deserve any credit for it, ok that’s insane but fine. He obviously did found SpaceX, so what, he deserves all the credit for that? As someone who was following Tesla from before Elon took it over (and FYI do think he is a founder) I can tell you my personal experience was that the company had obvious potential but leadership was an absolute disaster. This was something I was highly aware of and having Elon take it over was my wildest fantasy long before he actually did. He had led PayPal, was leading SpaceX, and as Tesla’s largest investor had the most knowledge of the business. So when he took it over this was a dream come true for me. Regardless of your opinion of the man, this was obviously the right decision from the perspective of the company which has grown multiple orders of magnitude since that time. But if you don’t actually care about things like real results or measurable decarbonization and all you want to do is go down the same algorithmically-enhanced hate-spiral you’re convinced he has gone down, then you’re on the right path. Hate is a poison that kills the poisoner. youtu.be/PDdUxr6ZQFo?is=jvOn…

The prophecy is fulfilled. Everyone is now a developer
Bro I don’t even know what the fuck a PR is. I thought it was when you lift big weight at the gym or something. But Grok Bot is so GOATED that I’m generating and merging them to main, whatever the hell any of that means. LFG

the "Hard Problem" in a nutshell: 1. atoms aren't conscious 2. humans are made of atoms 3. humans are conscious 4. so at least one of 1-3 must be false Panpsychists say #1 is false Dualists say #2 is false Illusionists say #3 is false Materialists say #4 is false

On the one hand I hate how Grok doesn't list the model numbers in their selectors, on the other hand I believe this is the way.

I believe that the most important companies going forward will be "Abundance Scalers." To test this thesisI've created a portfolio on @supertake and put $1,000 behind it. You can follow along here: supertake.com/t/M53MAGTQ7GY?…
