What is the nature of universal representations in AI models, and what determines whether they emerge?
Our paper accepted at #neurips2026 led by @florianmahner & @andropar addressed these questions comparing 162 vision models, with intriguing results.

Excited to share our preprint! w/@martin_hebart
To understand how primates visually process objects in the world, we rely on both research in human and macaque IT. But what representations of object space are actually shared between them?

I'm proud we are releasing LAION-fMRI, a densely sampled 7T fMRI dataset of natural images, with very broad stimulus sampling for testing countless hypotheses & deeply exploring brain representations. It is now available at

Have you ever computed noise ceilings to understand how well a model performs? We wrote a clarifying note on a subtle and common misapplication that can make models appear quite a lot better than they are.

What if you could predict brain function from structure in normally developing individuals?
In her new work, Fernanda Ribeiro (not on X) provides a toolbox that accurately predicts retinotopy from T1 scans alone!

How is high-level visual cortex organized?
In a new preprint with @martin_hebart & @KathaDobs, we show that category-selective areas encode a rich, multidimensional feature space 🌈

We make about 3-4 fast eye movements a second, yet our world appears stable. How is this possible? In a preprint led by @LucaKammer we test the intriguing idea that anticipatory signals in the fovea may explain visual stability.

Hugely excited that this work with @martin_hebart and @Chris_I_Baker is now out in @NatureHumBehav !!!
By moving from a category-focused to a behaviour-focused model, we identified behaviourally relevant object information throughout visual cortex.

I'm soon going to be looking for a senior postdoc to join my lab who is interested in transitioning to independence and in building their own group, with a strong background in vision science, cognitive computational neuroscience or visual neuroscience. Please RT 1/3

ML people: Do you know of any easy way of classifying whether an image is a photograph? For example, telling whether it has a cropped background (vs. e.g. a sky in a photograph), whether half of the image is actually text on top of the image, or whether it is just a diagram?
