We're deeply disappointed by NICE's decision to remove NHS access to the CAR T-cell therapy Tecartus for people with MCL in England and Wales.
Tecartus can offer a crucial lifeline for people who havenāt responded to other treatments.
The decision also reflects a wider challenge for cell and gene therapies in the UK. Innovative treatments can only fulfil their potential if patients can access them.
We need government, industry and the NHS working together to bring these therapies to patients.
We know this news may be incredibly tough for people affected by MCL ā please reach out to us if you would like to talk or have any questions.

We're already a third of the way to 100,000 signatures!
If everyone who has signed the petition shared it with just 2 friends, we'd be one step closer to ensuring more patients aren't denied a potentially lifesaving second stem cell transplant.

Under NHS Englandās current policy, patients who relapse within 12 months of their first stem cell transplant arenāt eligible for a second on the NHS - leaving access to potentially lifeāsaving treatment dependent on personal finances, not clinical need.
This policy was introduced almost a decade ago, and urgently needs changing ā clinical evidence now shows that decisions should consider individual circumstances, rather than a fixed 12 month cut off.

š¬ A CARāT therapy used for blood cancer could also help āresetā the immune system in severe lupus.
In the CARLYSLE trial, obeācel put 5/6 patients with severe lupus into remission - an early but promising sign for autoimmune treatment.

ALT The image features a quote highlighting the benefits of CAR T-cell therapy for blood cancer and autoimmune conditions, attributed to Yasmin Sheikh, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Anthony Nolan. The text is set in a green and white colour scheme, and reads: āWeāve seen how transformative CAR T-cell therapy can be for people with blood cancer. Weāre excited to see results which highlight its potential benefits for people living with autoimmune conditions.ā
In December, NICE published final guidance recommending the removal of Tecartus for patients with relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma from the NHS.
We submitted a joint appeal with @bloodcancer_uk and @LymphomaAction and today NICE announced they will reconsider.
We welcome this decision by NICE and will continue to advocate for access to this treatment on behalf of patients and families.š
