The CMA consulting on opening Apple’s NFC is a big step for UK mobile payments, but competition hinges on fair pricing. Access can’t create new gatekeeper taxes - to unlock real consumer benefits, access must be free or based on fully transparent costs. #CompetitionLaw #CMA #CAF
Google keeps repeating the same excuse: that app store competition compromises user safety. Meanwhile, Google let a fake Chrome app pay its way to the top of its search results and amass over 100k downloads before doing anything about it. Openness and security can coexist. When gatekeepers face zero meaningful competition, they only act to mitigate bad PR. Consumers and developers deserve real choice.

Our Global Policy Counsel @geneburrus joined Alan Chapell on @marketecturetv's @monopoly_report to discuss mobile competition, Safari’s domain blocking and why innovation shouldn’t depend on permission from Apple and Google. Listen below ⬇️
Apple and Google keep repeating the same excuse. @RepLoriTrahan recognizes that openness and security can coexist. Congress must pass the App Store Freedom Act. Listen to why it matters for competition on The Center Edge podcast with Evan Swarztrauber. Full episode below⬇️
Today, CAF and 17 allies called out the @EU_Commission. Apple's new App Store terms fail to resolve its non-compliance. The DMA requires steering to be free of charge. 15% is not zero. The Commission is turning enforcement into compromise.

Apple’s new terms defeat the purpose of the DMA by keeping fees high and blocking true competition. The EC's acceptance would be a profound failure and missed opportunity to deliver on the law's promise of fair and open digital markets. We urge regulators to reconsider. #DMA
Apple blaming its global services revenue declines on a U.S. court decision is a ruse to scare governments away from enforcing laws designed to address its anticompetitive App Store practices. Strong enforcement will enable an open mobile ecosystem so consumers benefit from having more choices, lower costs and the ability to do business directly with developers.

Today Aptiode became the first rival app marketplace to launch in the U.S. @Google Play store, proving what should have been obvious: competition & security can coexist.
But it isn’t enough & @apple users are still left out in the cold. Congress should pass the Senate's Open App Markets Act (#oama) & the House App Store Freedom Act (#asfa) to establish clear national rules, expand consumer choice, lower costs, & give developers a fair chance to compete.
The EC confirmed Google cannot block developers from steering customers outside apps to make purchases, violating the DMA. It found Apple also violated the law & failed to enforce its decision. It’s time to enforce the law & open up the mobile app ecosystem to competition.
The EU handed Alphabet’s Google an overall $1.02 billion fine, saying the search-engine giant had favored its own services over rivals’ on.wsj.com/3Tkfwes
💰Apple and Google are gatekeepers. When security fails, consumers pay. @RepKatCammack said today: "That isn't security – that is captivity." Pass the App Store Freedom Act to break this duopoly & restore competition.🔗Read how to save Americans $9B/yr: tinyurl.com/4b84h6jm
🚨 Apple/Google app store dominance crushes competition and taxes consumers. They control 99%+ of U.S. devices. As @RepLoriTrahan said, it’s a duopoly. Congress must pass the App Store Freedom Act to restore choice.
