I’ll be joining the @BaltimoreBanner next week as a reporter. I’m looking forward to joining an independent outlet that’s been hiring journalists who are accomplished but also adaptable enough to embrace new ways to engage with the communities and beats they cover. I’ll be based in my home county (Montgomery), where The Banner has been making inroads as it builds its brand in the capital region, while its parent nonprofit has expanded its reach by acquiring the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It’s been an interesting,: slightly unnerving—but ultimately really gratifying— period since I resigned from The Baltimore Sun in June over concerns about the paper’s journalism. I’ll never forget the support I received from journalists and readers. My resignation post on X tapped into anxiety over losing independent reporting and voices across the country that many of us once took for granted. We know better now. I start at The Banner on Nov. 2. More here: jeffbarker8.substack.com/p/s…

I still remember when everyone was doing the Foghorn Leghorn voice over memes and Eric Bauza joined in on the fun to roast Vegeta I’m gonna miss him

I had a bit about Looney Tunes make the rounds a few months ago. Eric Bauza not only reached out to say he loved it(a very kind and thoughtful gesture) but he also left me this voice memo. I listen to it a lot. RIP. What a talent. What a loss.
Eric Bauza, the Emmy Award-winning voice actor behind Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, died Sunday at his home as a result of hypertensive cardiovascular disease, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records. He was 46. variety.com/2026/film/people…

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements. "A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party.  We are better than this. We have a responsibility to show it. Today we endorse Democrat Amy Acton for governor." cleveland.com/open/2026/10/w…

It was disappointing that @60Minutes, with all its resources and expertise, broke zero new ground on the Tina Peters story. The report was just a repetition of what local journalists reported long ago.
“Show me the evidence that the paper ballot results differed from the computerized results,” 60 Minutes’ Bill Whitaker asks Tina Peters, the former Colorado election official who served time for her role in a voting machine breach. “My place is not to show, you know, pick out different things and what-- what could have happened,” Peters says. “I was authorized to protect the election records according to 52USC.70201.” cbsn.ws/3W6ZKFb

RIP Eric Bauza, the man who brought the Mel Blanc scream back to the Looney Tunes and so much more.
They kind of did. Though Eric Bauza will be the first to tell you Mel Blanc was irreplaceable and he’s lucky enough to have just a fraction of his talent, he’s also the modern voice actor who gets the closest to nailing the classic Mel Blanc scream.
