Is AI hitting a wall or what
Replying to @METR_Evals
This report shares our three subjective conclusions about risk:
1. We believe that, as of Oct 2026, the pace of capability growth on well-specified tasks is likely about 2x what it was from Mar 2024 to Oct 2025. We’re highly uncertain and would not be surprised by 1.3x–3x.
Has anybody heard from @BillAckman ?
Everyday we should be thankful that @elonmusk is not leading one of the frontier AI labs.
EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal.
The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions.

This is awesome news in general, but most of all I’m so happy for @real_ioannis ! ❤️❤️❤️
FT: NVDIA in talks to acquire Reflection AI!
The company was valued at $25 BILLION in its most recent round last March.
This would be the largest acquisition of a tech startup with a Greek co-founder ever by a long distance.
Go get ‘em @real_ioannis Antonoglou!

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Not only has the US never televised public executions in its history, but not even the Nazi defendants sentenced to death at the Nuremberg trials had their executions televised (it was deemed violative of the human rights that post-WW2 institutions were trying to re-establish).
The most amazing part of this is that Nidal Hasan is paraplegic and close to 60. So this disgusting spectacle will involve rolling him out in a wheelchair, then live-streaming his body as it's pumped full of bullets.
When I and others pointed out last night that public executions are carried out only by the countries we're told are the most primitive and savage (Afghanistan, North Korea), MAGA enthusisasts replied that we were too weak. Pummeling an old guy in a wheelchair with bullets -- as a reality TV show -- seems like an odd and dubious defintion of "strength," let alone an expression of the western values they endlessly claim they and they alone are trying to salvage.
BREAKING: The Pentagon says it will livestream the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan. apnews.com/article/fort-hood…

Who still carries out public executions:
The Iranian regime
The North Korean regime
The Taliban in Afghanistan
Al-Shabaab in Somalia
That is not the company we want to keep or the country we want to be.
I wish Terence had made a call for mathematicians to find ways to work with AI companies instead.

AI is getting cheaper more quickly than any other transformative tech in history. At a given level of performance, cost has fallen ~47%/quarter since 2023.
That’s 4× faster than DNA sequencing, 6× faster than compute, 18× faster than lithium batteries, and (up to 1973) 54× faster than electricity.
This
Building a company capable of doing this is one of Sam's superpowers, btw. It is widely underappreciated. It is also not costless; sometimes people can feel it as frothy and there are a few who churn out because of it. But a company that is capable of fluidly reorganizing around any major problem has extraordinary advantages. It is why OpenAI is so reliably able to push the frontier and reinvent the technology and itself as an org. The best people to work on a problem will be empowered with a huge amount of scope and authority to work on it for as long as that is the most important problem.
Sam is uniquely gifted in this regard: he figures out who can do the thing, and he gives them the runway to do it. Over and over. This is an absurdly powerful skill.
Big if true
We’re working with an independent advisory group of mathematicians to help OpenAI responsibly share advances in AI and mathematics.
The group will advise on how we assess and communicate new mathematical results, uphold academic and professional standards, and build tools that support mathematical research and learning.
Through this work, we want mathematicians to be at the center of shaping how AI supports mathematical understanding and how its benefits reach the wider community.

Very awesome job by @CompleteSkeptic and team! Excited to see what comes out of this.
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI?
I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev
• 20-200x faster
• 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free)
• Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions
AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution
Has anyone mapped where all the people who have left OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind etc for safety reasons have ended up – what they're up to now? Curious what the distribution looks like.
Wowowowow
We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics.
The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.
The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.
