I could sit here and tell you a bunch of funny and heartwarming stories about Mr Friar, but maybe it’s more telling to say that today I’ve been crying my eyes out for a man I worked for over 30 years ago. He was the best boss ever, and by some margin. RIP Mr Friar 💔

Arteta starts his press conference with a tribute to Ken Friar: "There are people in football clubs that create an identity, create values and have a vision to create a future. The legacy that Ken is going to leave, to all of us and to our club, is going to be forever."

Sunderland spent 8 YEARS in the Championship. One season back in the Premier League and they’re already playing in Europe. Brighton are in Europe. Bournemouth are in Europe — a club that was practically on its knees when Eddie Howe took over. Crystal Palace are in Europe AGAIN after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. And somehow we’re still being told the Premier League is a “closed shop”? 😂 Look at what’s happening: Brighton went 2-0 down to Man United in the Carabao Cup and came back to win 3-2. Three days later, they absolutely dismantled Arsenal. Brentford put three past Chelsea that same weekend. Hull came up from the Championship and have already beaten United and taken a point at Stamford Bridge. They’re sitting 8th. Where exactly is this “no chance for smaller clubs” argument coming from? And I genuinely don't understand the “red cartel” argument either. Arsenal waited 22 years for another league title. Liverpool have won two league titles in roughly four decades. United haven't won the Premier League in 13 years. So what exactly is PSR supposedly protecting these clubs from? 😂 Trophies? Because over the last decade, the clubs collecting the most silverware have been Manchester City and Chelsea — the same clubs at the centre of major financial-rule controversies. Yet somehow we're supposed to believe the problem is everyone else. At some point, you have to take responsibility. “We had no choice.” Yes, you did. Brighton had the same choice. So did Brentford. So did Bournemouth. They built gradually, developed players, recruited intelligently and stayed within the framework. And now they're competing at the top end of English football. Maybe the problem isn't that the door is closed. Maybe some clubs simply don't like the fact that everyone has to walk through the same door now. 😭 PSR hasn't stopped competition. If anything, look at the clubs breaking through and tell me the competition is dead. The excuses need to stop. 😤

Read Soccernomics. Football is literally a game in which wallet predicts victory. Correlation btw salary bill and league position over 10 years is 90%. If you stop rich owners spending, then the clubs that have the highest revenues win. Either way, you spend your way to victory

Really happy to see Arteta (close to) renewing. It’s not spoken about enough because people don’t like him or Arsenal, but what he’s achieved here - in his first senior role - is totally unprecedented. Our sporting and cultural lighthouse, and key to things moving forward.

One of the unfortunate (imo) things about modern social media culture is that people are scared to show gratitude or emotion because they’re so scared of being perceived or made fun of by others. It’s enormously increased cynicism. I often revisit that post Liverpool interview in 2020 when we fluked a win and Arteta was still honest about the gap between Liverpool and Arsenal at that point. There’s so much noise and a lot of it (not all) is bad faith but the signal was strong at the start. And I’d say make sure to enjoy it because it doesn’t last forever

VAR audio always makes me wince. Sounds like a bunch of northern lads down the pub deciding who wants what in a round, or trying to work out a food order.

Bizarre interview. Victim complex runs right through that whole club from players all the way to the fans.
"You look at the two teams. How much money they can spend. How much money we can spend... you're playing against a team that's spending millions and millions. It's difficult." Matty Cash following Aston Villa’s defeat to Arsenal ⬇️
