I went to see You Can See Everything again today with my son. His reaction was that Elizabeth Holmes shouldn’t be in jail because all the people she defrauded deserved to have ALL of their money taken, not just some of it, for falling for such an obvious scam.

The highlight of my day was waking up to find out I pissed off Whiplash stans by saying it’s a good movie! It is! It’s good! It’s not great though. Too much a run of the mill sports movie to be great.

When people would tell me I’ve been doing x for 30 years and that meant since 1975, that was cool. Now they say 30 years ago and that’s just 1996. That holds no weight for me. There’s no majesty there. I’m not impressed.

Is Damien Chazelle the most recent director that has never made a bad one and each one is better than the last? I think so, but I’m open to suggestions.

I loved You Can See Everything but I am looking forward to the time when film twitter discourse is all about the final scene in Fatherland.

I’m skipping the last day of the Middleburg Film Festival so I can See Everything. Also because I’m really tired after seeing 10 movies in two days.

I just hit movie number 1,000 in my handwritten movie journal (I’m on volume 7) and it happens to be the best movie I’ve seen this year.

Normal states: not too often Maryland: lmao
Bit of a question for my American friends: Aside from government buildings and special cases like Texas, how often do you see State flags IRl? In most provinces you see the National vs Provincial flag on about a 4:1 ratio. My sense is it’s a lot less prevalent in the US.

Here’s my slate of films for today. Q&A with Bill Pullman, too, so I have that going for me, which is nice.
