I am seeing a lot of news in the press (at least in Spain) saying that botanists "have decided to get rid of all offensive names on plants". As always some media do not contrast and misinform, this is what has happened. 👇🏻

Species are going extinct before we discover them
Have you ever wondered, why is there no service to support taxonomic species descriptions?
The @oceanspecies_ project @Senckenberg proposes a new model to accelerate taxonomy. Out now in #Bioessays

Have you heard the news?! A stink bug new to science was discovered on our Wudjari Esperance Bush Blitz! The pea-sized stink bug resembles the spiky leaves of its host plant, a Hakea sp. If you take a closer look, you can see it also has curved horns and bright yellow tusks!

Be wary of species records on @atlaslivingaust when they are from @inaturalist - SO many incorrect #Australian #bee identifications. Crowd consensus does not equal taxonomic verification. We should be investing in #taxonomy @australtaxonomy

Very impressed with @RubySeadragon's work on weedy seadragons, using genomics to explore structure and gene flow, and wildlife forensics to track origin of illegally-collected animals 🐉 with Greg Rouse too! rdcu.be/ddhKM

There are so many undocumented species awaiting discovery in herbaria and museums, including several new triggerplants I’ve unearthed at the Northern Territory Herbarium in the past 2 weeks.
More taxonomists please👇
"Many new species are only now being discovered because they’re rare, isolated, or both — factors that also make them easier to wipe out". Thank you @katarinazimmer @undarkmag for highlighting the urgent need to catalog the worlds biodiversity. undark.org/2023/05/29/discov…
