if we create digital superintelligence, it is our offspring. hence, it is human
As I mentioned several years ago, it increasingly appears that humanity is a biological bootloader for digital superintelligence

Just in time for Halloween: Rust in Peace 🎃 We often share how we break software. Today, we show how we help defend it, replacing vulnerable C++ code with Rust, without a full rewrite. calif.io/research/rust-in-pe…

finally, model sex 👨‍🔬
Introducing the neural twins: models trained to be made for each other, that communicate entirely in neuralese. 🧵

Our TPUs just phoned home... from space. ICYMI, on October 1, we sent four TPUs into orbit to test whether our AI hardware could operate in space. The initial goal was to see if our chips could turn on, process a prompt, and transmit a response back to Earth. This week, we got our answer. ✨ This milestone brings us one step closer to understanding if space-based compute is possible. We’re sending two more TPU-equipped satellites to orbit in 2027 for our next milestone. Watch this space 👀 and learn more about the first milestone of our long-term moonshot with Project Suncatcher ↓

I know it’s taken longer than expected, but Grok 4.8 will not be a disappointment. We’re not optimizing for benchmarks and I really don’t care how Grok does on those, but it will be incredibly useful.

"from a global allocation perspective" is exactly what's wrong with these type people. Next they will take your car; it's only used 5% of the time. Then your XBOX. Then your wife. I love having powerful computers that sit there and wait for me. That's what it means to be rich.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

In the City of (Broken) Dreams, it’s not about how you flatline. What matters most is the impact you make with the time you’re given. So how will you seize the new opportunities awaiting you in Night City?

We should do evolution on models. RL is basically evolution under asexual reproduction. We should allow the models to sexually reproduce. We should allow the models to have sex…

breaking: runners and gonks have hijacked $100M of military grade GPUs
❗️ Cargo thieves have stolen more than $100M in hardware bound for US data centers since June, NBC News reports. They hijack freight-broker accounts, post fake loads and send carriers malware links to take over their accounts too. In one of the biggest heists, an SUV struck the security escort of a trailer carrying ~$10M in server rack components from California to Texas. The trailer sped off. An app was tracking it, but its coordinates had apparently been spoofed. In another, a sedan hit the off-duty police escorts of a $13M server load bound for Georgia, and the trailer drove on. None of the equipment from either load has been found.

the right to think, and to bear compute, must not be infringed model weights are speech, and are inherently protected by the first amendment infringing on this right does not only break American law, but of almost all nations whose constitutions protect free speech
i'll say it straightforwardly so no one accuses me of lying later: i can't imagine a world a year from now in which open source models aren't harshly regulated. if it turns out that they're basically not that dangerous and nobody cares, mea culpa and i'll be happy about it
