A thread with gratitude to @mashagessen @nytimes for covering the corporate complicity verdict against LaFarge this week & for the chance to discuss how corporate enabling (incl., now, by BigTech) is key to preventing mass atrocities. Gift link: nytimes.com/2026/04/17/opini…
Really excellent piece by @EvelynAswad @just_security All of us who have seen “business and human rights reporting” by social media companies (including many repeat players now in AI) are experiencing déjà-vu right now justsecurity.org/161488/fron…

I’m digesting the #ICC sanctions news from Dubrovnik, at a convening on mass atrocity prevention. The legacy of atrocities is literally etched into the landscape.

Today, the Trump Administration is sanctioning the ICC.
This action should encourage our Allies within the Court to work for solutions to end this threat to U.S. sovereignty forever.
#ICC statement: No one should be punished for serving the cause of justice. History will judge this moment. Future generations, and above all the victims of mass atrocities, will ask how we responded when an institution created to protect them came under attack.

In a statement seen by Reuters, Secretary Rubio calls the ICC a "rogue" court and says Washington is acting to cut off its resources and cripple its ability to function. "President Trump will never allow the International Criminal Court to prosecute Americans," Rubio says.

🔥 LFG! Real America's Voice has TAKEN OVER the pool coverage from fake news outlets like CNN, on the ground at Joint Base Andrews RIGHT NOW to follow President Trump aboard Air Force One
"CNN is NOT HERE. WE have taken over that responsibility. Our crew is growing. Going onto Air Force One is an honor and pleasure."
@RealAmVoice says ANY NETWORK can use the pool feed

The Trump administration allowed CNN to resume its TV pool coverage duties Friday, capping a whirlwind week of restrictions being imposed and lifted after President Donald Trump banned the network, MS NOW and Politico from the White House.

Despite the court order overnight, CNN, MS NOW and Politico reporters are still being blocked from entering the White House grounds today. Yet for Xi’s visit, members of the Chinese state media are present.

Bryan Boughton, who runs the Fox News Washington bureau and is the current TV pool chair, says in an email; ”This is to advise that, effective today, the TV pool will not be covering events designated as pool coverage of the President.”
“This follows the White House’s position preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties. There will be no replacement pool put in place.” Via @brianstelter

Thank you. I’m grateful. But this is a pattern. BigTech releases “innovative product” / ppl who work with vulnerable populations generate needed outcry on its danger / BigTech - in best case scenario - presses pause. BigTech needs ppl to spot these issues in advance.
Re: our statement on Image Generation in Google Earth:
“We know that people uniquely trust Google Earth for a reliable view of the world. We’ve seen geospatial professionals using this feature for a range of useful purposes, however we’ve also seen people sharing screenshots of generated imagery that appear to violate our policies. So we’re rolling back this feature in Google Earth while we work on implementing stronger guardrails. It's important to note that generated images didn’t appear in the main Google Earth experience for others to see and were watermarked as AI generated.”
