Canada is "reviewing" its many cloud contracts with Amazon after the tech giant killed a budding union by closing 7 facilities and firing 2,000 people. It should follow through on the threat and cancel those deals. ttnews.com/articles/amazon-c…

“The Tyranny of Structurelessness” ought to be required reading for startup execs.
ElevenLabs has removed all titles. Now, there's no "VP of X", "Head of Y", or "Director of Z". Instead we are just Growth at ElevenLabs, Engineering at ElevenLabs, etc. Why? We're small, growing incredibly quickly, and hierarchy just gets in the way. Instead the best idea wins no matter where it comes from. And ownership is driven by the results you have. If you're obsessed with impact and moving quickly; not titles and status we're hiring for nearly all roles.

Curious whether video generation models (like #SORA) qualify as world models? We conduct a systematic study to answer this question by investigating whether a video gen model is able to learn physical laws. Three are three key messages to take home: 1⃣The model generalises perfectly for in-distribution data, but fails to do out-of-distribution generalization. For combinatorial scenarios, scaling law is observed. 2⃣The models fail to abstract general rules and instead tries to mimic the closest training example. 3⃣The model prioritizes different attributes when referencing training data: color > size > velocity > shape. This work is a joint effort with our outstanding intern @YangYue_THU. Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2411.02385 Webpage: phyworld.github.io/

After many years I finally put pants on Pickles. @ben11kehoe I think we had this discussion back in the day! This is how I made it work. Also Pickles is team suspenders.

I'm super excited to finally announce AWS AppSync Events - a new feature that lets you easily build real-time experiences with WebSocket APIs! 🚀 No more worrying about WebSocket infrastructure or scaling. Just create your API and publish events.

AppSync is launching an awesome feature - Event API. It's basically AppSync's WebSockets capability without the GraphQL layer. I've gushed over AppSync's subscriptions in the past, and I've seen many folks use it to build real-time applications. But, often, they use it in spite of the GraphQL protocol, not because of the GraphQL protocol. Personally, I'm a fan of GraphQL and I like how AppSync subscriptions work. But it is a barrier for some because they're working with REST and just want vanilla WebSockets to add some real-time feature, or to develop their own protocol on top of WebSockets. If that's you, then this new feature is gonna make life a lot easier for you. The official announcement should drop shortly (hopefully, with CloudFormation support on day 1!), but you can already play with it in the console. Have fun! #aws #appsync #serverless

Automakers want to turn cars into a subscription service, making you pay monthly or annual subscription fees for key fobs, GPS, CarPlay and more. These add-ins are estimated to become a $200 billion market.

I have a sinking feeling the step after this is "blocking is only about engagement with your posts, blocked users still show up in your feed" so that Elon's tweets can get more views
Soon we’ll be launching a change to how the block function works. If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage (like, reply, repost, etc.).
