day 4 of redesigning a startup's landing page for free
today: @freestyle_dev
the founder asked for more personality, so i made a little mascot type of thing. they even move when you hover over them. it also fits the whole "cloud" sandboxes well, with real clouds on the page.
Doing a private deep dive into sandbox binpacking and how Freestyle builds the most efficient sandbox engine in the industry.
*literally 300x more efficient than any other sandbox provider

Please god no more Waymo and Jetbrains ads when I’m in a Waymo.
Waymo, I’m already in a god damn Waymo
Jetbrains, I’m not gonna use fucking datagrip
I fixed it

Repeal of the 1958 Onion Futures Act
University of Chicago Students to Protest at Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Demand End to Federal Ban on Onion Futures
Student-led group For Our Futures will rally Monday morning to call for repeal of the 1958 Onion Futures Act
On Monday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m., members of For Our Futures, a student-led organization from @UChicago, will gather outside the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (@CMEGroup) headquarters to demand the repeal of the Onion Futures Act of 1958, a nearly 70-year-old federal law prohibiting futures trading in onions.
The Onion Futures Act, enacted following allegations of market manipulation in the 1950s, singled out onions for a prohibition on futures contracts that remains in effect today. For Our Futures is calling on Congress to repeal the ban and restore the ability of onion growers, buyers, and traders to participate in a regulated futures market. Onions remain the only commodity banned from futures trading in the United States.
The protest will feature a giant inflatable onion costume, protest signs, and dozens of students, and will take place outside the headquarters of CME Group, one of the world's largest derivatives marketplaces and the historic center of American onion futures trading.

Prediction: In 10 years we will look at grocery stores how we currently look at malls: nostalgically.
Is anybody else getting outbound from "high quality web contractors" who's website looks absolutely vibe-slopped?
I had gotten 0 outbound like this until a few weeks ago but recently I've been receiving a lot.
Does this ever work?
Planetscale won MySQL. We can pretend there are serious contenders or we can be serious.
In Postgres the winners were Neon, Supabase and ironically also Planetscale.
Yes there are 100 cache companies, Redis won the cache layer.
Cloudflare won the CDN primitive.
Yes AWS, GCP and Azure take their share. No there will not be a dozen mid sandbox companies in 2 years, there will probably be a Planetscale, a Neon, and a Supabase.
sandboxes are a compute primitive
just like a cloud function or a database or a cache, a sandbox is another component of a broader product suite
the same way Postgres, Redis, Kubernetes are primitives, not platforms
there’s no winner take all Postgres company beyond the framework itself, which is open-source anyway
the winning infra company builds a platform around those primitives and builds an ecosystem around it
you don’t “win” the market for Postgres, or containers, or VMs
you win by building the platform that runs all of it
I am going to be the Sam Lambert of sandbox CEOs and @freestyle_dev will be the Planetscale.
All the super cheap sandbox providers are trying to run on hetzner.
Have any of them thought of running on random people's computers like residential proxies do? just a lil extra compute.
Homomorphic Encryption style.
This list loses credibility by putting Riley Walz on the same scale as normal cool people.
Everybody else here is awesome, but not at all the same. Its like Forbes 30u30 when they have Elizabeth Holmes and then 29 other people.
They should make his image 2x as bigger and maybe add a rainbow chromatic shader behind him.
Here's my list of people to watch 25 and under. Who else should I add? cosign.co/lists/eriktorenber…
The people who say sandboxes are a commodity happen to make the worst sandboxes.
Shocking consistency.
Consistency matters more.
Freestyle built out our own racks and our own hypervisor designed for this.
We run hundreds of thousands of VMs daily at this pace.

The bottleneck in AI coding is moving from writing code to managing compute.
Freestyle founder Benjamin Swerdlow believes local coding agents are a temporary phase.
When developers can run ten agents simultaneously in the cloud, the economics of working on one machine start to look very different.

This morning I got coffee with the one and only @waynesutton.
Feeling pumped about the future. Convex team are goats.
I don't feel like Kimi 2.7 gets enough love. Incredibly good model.
Kimi 3 and GLM 5 get a ton of attention for matching the frontier but IMO both were a bit benchmaxxed and not incredible to work with.
These days I use GLM-5.3-Flash a lot, which is extremely useful but definiteligence it is my favorite model I've ever worked with.
These days I use GLM-5.3-Flash a lot, which is extremely useful but definitely a pain to work with and requires really intentional prompting.
Maybe its a skill issue or personal taste, anybody else have similar thoughts or complete opposite opinions?
