This paper answers why confident idiots run the world. Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy. It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.” they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception. And the results are wild. participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile. they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence. the paper revealed a brutal paradox: the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain. if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing. this creates a dangerous systemic loop. the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions. meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse. top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else. they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add. we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence. the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't. the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.

Jamie Morrison makes a change at quarterback in a big-time match vs. Kentucky 😳 He starts senior Margot Manning at setter after Kirra Musgrove has struggled a bit. Manning is coming off her best performance vs. Georgia with 29 assists.

This is how you create a cesspool summed up in one post. When you continue to report like this, year after year after year after year…you condition the cesspool instead of preparing them for what’s coming. Shoutout to this poster who bumped this thread.

In 1998, Serena and Venus Williams said they could beat any man ranked outside the top 200 in the men's division. So, little known and 203rd ranked men's player Karsten Braasch took them up on the challenge. Braasch after a night of drinking and smoking with zero practice, destroyed Serena 6-1 and Venus 6-2 in straight sets. The Williams sisters are the greatest female athletes of all time. And they barely made Braasch break a sweat. It wasn't because Braasch was very good. He wasn't. But, as a male, he possesses biological advantages even the best female athletes can't compete against. That's the very reason we established women's sports to begin with. To even the playing field. That shouldn't be controversial. And you shouldn't need a biology degree to understand it.

I don’t want to hear that the future is bright for American soccer. That they should be proud. That was a disgusting effort. We’re far closer to the bottom than the top. Just not a soccer country

Jackson Koivun will make his highly anticipated PGA Tour debut at this week's John Deere Classic. At the same time, he closes the door on a decorated amateur career highlighted by two NCAA team titles with Auburn. Many consider Koivun a generational player, different from other recent can't-miss prospects because of two things: his elite putting and arguably unmatched work ethis. Here's an excerpt from a feature on Koivun published a couple weeks ago: +++ Josiah Gilbert, Koivun’s fellow junior, paints the picture perfectly, sharing a story from their freshman year. The team had gotten back late after winning the SEC Championship, and Gilbert planned to take a few days off, but he needed to drop by the facility to pick up a pair of shoes. “It’s like 8 a.m., and I look in the middle bay and Jackson is hitting balls,” Gilbert said. “Not 12 hours removed from winning an SEC Championship, and he was back at it. … I stayed and practiced that day after seeing that.” It’s not uncommon for Garcia to wake up at 5 a.m. to a few swing videos from Koivun asking, “What do you think?” Garcia will then FaceTime his star student, who is two hours ahead and already on the range, and they’ll talk through what Koivun needs to work on. Garcia will usually receive a few more videos that evening, Koivun still swinging in the dark, searching for perfection. Even after last month’s NCAA Athens Regional, where Koivun battled through a stomach virus to tie for 10th, he was so frustrated with his putting that he picked himself up some chicken tenders upon arriving back in Auburn that night and by 9:30 p.m. he was on the practice green, rolling putts with assistance from his cellphone flashlight. “All that adds up,” George Koivun says. “If you’re a golfer, and you want to become very good, you know, that total immersion, it will get you there.” Full story: golfchannel.com/ncaa/news/wh…
