PBBM sees Mynt IPO as sign of investor confidence, vows more reforms
MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday vowed continued business reforms, as he welcomed Mynt Inc.’s initial public offering (IPO) as a positive sign for the country’s investment climate.
During the listing ceremony for Mynt at the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) Tower in Taguig City, Marcos reaffirmed his commitment to making the Philippine capital market more attractive and accessible.
“The timing of this listing is especially meaningful, as our stock market needs renewed investor interest and broader participation,” Marcos said.
“We will continue to pursue reforms that strengthen investor confidence and support the development of our capital market,” he added.
Marcos expressed optimism that Mynt’s public listing would draw more investments, noting that local and international investments demonstrated continued confidence in Filipino enterprise.
Mynt, the parent company of e-wallet platform GCash, conducted its IPO from Oct. 6 to 12 at PHP6.60 per share, raising approximately PHP53 billion from the sale of over 8 billion shares.
The offering attracted strong demand from more than 20 global and local institutions.
“We recognize that investors have become more cautious and that attracting fresh capital remains a challenge. But Mynt’s initial public offering gives us reason for optimism,” Marcos said.
“With an offering that could raise as much as PHP61 billion, this landmark IPO is an encouraging development for our capital market,” he added.
Marcos also welcomed the participation of ordinary Filipinos in Mynt’s public offering, noting that qualified GCash users could subscribe to the share through Gstocks PH, powered by AB Capital Securities Inc., with a minimum subscription of 100 shares worth PHP660.
“This just shows that digital technology can make investment opportunities more accessible to everyone,” he said.
Marcos expressed hope that Mynt’s successful listing on the PSE would also encourage other Filipino enterprises to explore the stock market as an new avenue for growth and expansion.
He urged private sector partners to continue investing in ideas, enterprises and technologies that create jobs, expand opportunities and improve lives.
“For its part, the government will continue to work to improve the ease of doing business, promote fair competition, and to support responsible innovation,” Marcos said. (Ruth Abbey Carlos/PNA)
