Bend, Oregon man who shot and killed a shooter at his daughters' school speaks out, praises female teacher for fighting the shooter, allowing him to have a clear shot. Kaylub Giamanco says he is haunted by the sound of children pleading for their lives. He also praised the teacher for grabbing the gunman's weapon, allowing him to take a shot at the shooter. "I want to recognize [the teacher]. She gave me the opportunity to make my shot without losing my life..." "I swung the door open, and I stepped in, and I fired, and they dropped to the ground... I looked down at the gunman, and he was scrambling for his weapon. And I looked at him, and I shot him 2 more times..."

My slightly jaded, seen-everything, almost 12-year-old son on Wildwood: "I have to admit, that was like a 9.5 out of 10."

This movie was so incredibly impressive. Not for small children. But just wonderful.
The forest is buzzing, and so are the critics! 🌲Wildwood is at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. In theaters Friday. Get tickets now (link in bio). #Wildwood

Something makes me nervous about handing over a whole keychain of passwords to agents... I know it's not that simple, but just makes me think twice for sure, with all the security issues going on.
Today we announce 1Password for Agents platform, building with companies @Muse, SpaceX Super Intelligence Grok @Bot, @AnthropicAI’s @Claudeai, @OpenAI, @TownAI, @Browserbase, @Browser_use, @heydana_ai, Instinct, @usekernel, @Perplexity_ai, @tryramp, @Tomo, and @wajo_ai, with more integrations on the way. 🎉 We've heard from so many of our customers who want to use these new personal AI agents to help them get more done, but want more control over what the agent can access with the same trust and ease of use they get when using 1Password directly. 1Password for Agents gives your agents access without giving up your passwords. When an agent reaches a sign-in form, it requests a credential from your vault. If you approve the request, 1Password directly auto-fills the credential in the destination site so the agent can’t see or take possession of the credentials. The agent gets the task done, but it doesn’t get your passwords.. You stay in control. 1Password for Agents free and optional for personal and family accounts. Unless you opt-in to an agent connector, agents cannot touch your vault. ➡️Learn more: bit.ly/487da6J

The problem seems to be that the banks can't tell if the agents have been given permission by their users to access their accounts or not. Every big AI company is in the process of launching a proactive agent with access to everything. This is going to turn into a big issue.
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Churchill could have shortened WW2 by years if he had just “done a deal” with Hitler. George Washington could have done a deal to end the American Revolution. Zelenskyy is in good company.

This book exists and everyone should read it. amazon.com/Uncontrollability…
Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.

Nowadays I can set up a Claude Code session, put my MacBook Pro on “caffeinate” (stay awake), and go out on a 2-hour walk downtown, and occasionally check in on progress by looking at screenshots of what it’s doing. If you know what I’m talking about, it’s truly insane.

I co-founded a music platform called NoiseTrade back in 2007 or so, and we paid close to $30,000 (and 3-5 months) for developers to build our first site (which was great). That now would be a 2-day project by myself and cost $100 in tokens, maybe less.

The thing about living in my hometown where I’ve spent most (all but 8) of my 46 years is that when I’m out in town I keep searching every face to see if it’s someone I know from years ago. And many times it is someone I know.

More reason @thefp is the new publication of the decade-- @Douthat60 's column today, his second, is spectacular and gives off the feeling that there's been an unshackling for Ross in departing the Times, just as Bari unshackled herself six years ago. thefp.com/p/ross-douthat-how…

Noticing the price of $1,999, but only $97 / month with financing... That's $3.19 cost per day for a restaurant to have one of these, if not a dozen.
