NEW: We got consent from 7 unhoused people sheltering on Pandora Ave to hide Apple AirTags in their possessions.
This is after years of City of Victoria denying allegations that bylaw don't follow their own policies.
Now we have proof. Part 1 of 2 ⬇️

Check out this follow-up to our AirTag investigation — which established that Victoria bylaw officers throw away new & usable items, contrary to city claims — to read about impacts, solutions, and what has/hasn't been attempted across Canada.

Incredible reporting by @brish_ti and Mike Graeme at De Facto Journalism Co-op. Using AirTags they caught bylaw officers throwing away brand-new donated items confiscated from homeless people, against the city’s own rules!
We know this happens in every municipality. Now there’s proof. You cannot confiscate someone's way out of homelessness.
This isn't a solution, it's cruelty disguised as enforcement.
Build housing. Stop punishing poverty.
