Willkommen zu News in Affensprache:
Oranger Affe mächtig, weil gesagt "Affennachrichten fake!". Und Freund von Raketenaffe. Aber jetzt Affenhaus nicht mehr auf seiner Seite, weil Affen Kreuzchen bei anderer Banane gemacht.
Nasenaffe Angst, weil oranger Affe Freund.

AirBnB just started offering weather Prediction Markets to it's users.
Users can hedge bad weather at their destination by betting on rain levels.
this is a trillion dollar usecase.
here is how it works:
- users choose to pay a small "insurance fee" (stake) when booking
- payout is determined automatically based on the odds of rain
- If it rains, payout is automatically credited to their account
No claim, No verification, 100% automated.
Essentially, this is a prediction market bet disguised as insurance.
This is called a "Parametric insurance".
And it's what will take prediction markets from the $600B gambling industry to the $8T insurance industry.
Right now AirBnB is settling the bet through Chubb, a legacy insurance company, but they explicitly do NOT disclose their oracle anywhere.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were already using @Kalshi behind the scenes.
It would be incredibly easy for them to use Kalshi to :
- receive accurate weather odds
- handle market resolution
- even settle payouts
All the insurer would do is charge a premium over the odds and collect the difference.
If this usecase takes on, @Kalshi & @Polymarket could become the backbone of a trillion dollars industry.

Israeli occupation forces have arrested journalist Samer Huwira from his home in Nablus, about three weeks after he described to Haaretz the conditions he endured during nine months of administrative detention, from which he was released in January without trial after losing 22 kilograms and contracting scabies.
The Israeli army says he incited "terrorist activity on the Internet." It first claimed he had been transferred for police interrogation, then retracted that, and it refuses to say where he is held.
Huwira was previously detained over a Facebook post reporting the killing of a Palestinian by Israeli forces in Nablus, and no evidence of illegal activity was presented against him.

An Israeli settler in west bank calls Israel an “almost apartheid state” and says he would be willing to leave if lasting peace is achieved.

When journalists get attacked, the attack itself is rarely the real story.
Read the real story below:
We were nearly killed two days ago.
Settler-terrorist Tomer Liani bashed my head against the ground repeatedly, then the IDF and police blocked the ambulances and prevented hospitalisation.
All because we caught the settlers locking locking a gate to more than 20 Palestinian communities, trapping entire families.
We exposed Tomer Liani, Shimon Atia and Nevo Nadalski directly committing crimes against humanity in Masafer Yatta, and we were punished by the Israeli police and court for this.
Israeli state terrorism in the West Bank is at its peak, and the authorities are doing everything to keep Palestinian voices silent.

Jerusalem District Court (unsurprisingly) sided with the terrorists.
Yesterday we submitted an appeal against my 2-month ban from the West Bank after being attacked by a settler. Israeli judge Elad Persky (pictured below) rejected the appeal, siding with the terrorist Tomer Liani.
One more reminder that settler terror is state terror in the West Bank. It is supported and facilitated at the highest levels, by the IDF, the police, the courts, and the government itself.

AI makes it easier to turn data into focused apps.
@karpathy says HackerTube took 2h to build. The recommendations behind it accumulated for 20 years.
Look at the apps being built around Hacker News data:
01 / HackerTube → 6,454 videos from 43M comments
teapawt.org/karpathy/status/211695…
02 / HackerBooks → 15,766 books mentioned on HN
teapawt.org/roansh_/status/2117222…
03 / Hacker Papers → 1,000+ arXiv papers
teapawt.org/omarsar0/status/211705…
04 / HackerBlogs → 9,434 blogs from 10.7M links
teapawt.org/ian_hsiao_tw/status/21…
Look for communities with good archives and poor discovery. A good dataset can give you a whole family of app ideas.
i enjoy reading blogs, so i made this thing: hackerblogs.app
it's every blog hacker news people keep sharing. 9,434 of them, pulled from 10.7M links in HN comments and stories

Breaking | More than a month after the incident, sources report that Palestinian leader Hassan Salameh was shot multiple times by Israeli prison guards on September 28, 2026, the day far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir stormed his cell to film a short video threatening to kill him, as an election stunt.

On October 31st and November 1st 1948 IOF soldiers rounded up 90 men and boys and took them to a house in the village of Houla in southern Lebanon and shot them. Then house was then collapsed on them and they were only identified months later by their clothing.
In November 2024 the IOF entered Houla again and desecrated the memorial, daubing it with the words “the only good Shia is a dead Shia”. Now the village is inside the so-called “yellow zone” and has largely been destroyed.
This is what a genocide looks like.

Weekend hack: HackerTube. I was annoyed with YouTube's recommendations so I had Claude filter down 43M comments over 20 years of HN to 6,454 videos that keep being recommended. *Significantly* better viewing experience, ~2 hours with Opus 5.5:
hackertube.org/
- Excellent recs without any logins (state is kept in local browser session)
- Thumbnail is a representative frame from middle of the video instead of the super duper A/B test hyper-optimized user uploads
- Underlying data from the comment analysis as one zip file, point your Claude at it and ask for your own version
- HackerTube Longs ✊
A bit more on the process:
I use Claude Code (desktop app for Mac), Opus 5.5 on Medium effort as my default. I only talk to Claude and have it do everything, the only "manual work" I helped with in tandem was in the browser (reminiscent of MenuGen): 1) I had to create some kind of API key from Google Cloud UI to query YouTube for video metadata, 2) I booted up a VPS box for serving and 3) I bought the domain name. Once the box was up I gave Claude the IP and told it update, secure, harden, deploy and optimize the code, and it did the whole thing.
Many awesome projects that would have normally taken weeks/months even can now be few-shotted for breakfast. What else are we not thinking of.
