If you want to get better at math, then you have to solve a shit-ton of math problems that are continually calibrated to your level of ability.
There's no way around it.
Even if you watch videos, read textbooks, learn about the lives of famous mathematicians...
If you can't bring yourself to suck it up and solve the problems, then you're not actually going to get better at math.

Your team is ready to tackle the problem. But is everyone ready to work together?
Save this checklist, and send it to your teammates.

People will happily commit their children to professional sports and coaches who require hours of repeated drills and practice.
But when it comes to math, suddenly we hear that “too much practice” is a bad thing.
If athletes want to develop automaticity, they practice the skill repeatedly.
If we want a student to develop automaticity in math, we ALSO need them to practice the skill repeatedly.
Practice isn’t the enemy to be avoided. Practice is how skills become automatic.

The joy of math is similar to the joy of exercise. You gotta earn it. Exercise gets way more fun once you notice a body transformation getting underway. It's the same way with math.
But nobody feels the transformation on day one. Or day two, or even day three. You gotta stick with it for months before you really notice a difference.

It's often said that stories are psychologically privileged, but I have always thought that this would be easier to do in science than in mathematics. Here's a study that confirms my prejudice: bit.ly/4gSEdqi

I've always attributed "Intelligence is knowing what to do when you don't know what to do" to Piaget, but that is apparently a paraphrase. In my search I found this on page 165 of the 1964 edition of John Holt's "How children fail".
