My co-authors and I published this graph two and a half decades ago. A picture, as they say, is worth a thousand words:
Imagine if more climate scientists had used those phrases back then and we worked to reduce emissions as quickly as possible, and @GretaThunberg would never have had to skip school.
Instead we are now in 2023 and global emissions are higher than ever.

Es ist unerlässlich, dass wir weiter in #Afghanistan engagiert bleiben und uns insbesondere für Frauen und Mädchen einsetzen. Als größter Geber, und seit Juni 2023 gemeinsam mit Norwegen im Co-Vorsitz bei @EduCannotWait, fördern wir langfristig wichtige Bildungsangebote für alle.
Seit der Machtübernahme durch die Taliban vor zwei Jahren bleibt Mädchen und Frauen in #Afghanistan ihr Recht auf Bildung verwehrt. Dagegen setzten wir uns ein und fördern z.B. über den Bildungsfonds @EduCannotWait nicht-formale Bildungsangebote für alle.
