Peter Oborne's article is incisive and moving. I urge you to read it.
Rod Liddle was a good writer. But racism and Islamophobia were a core part of his identity, his personality and now his legacy. In this column for Middle East Eye, I ask why gushing tributes from politicians and media ignored Liddle's open bigotry:

Wartime Love & Loss: Flight-Lt Rob Keddie, an aristocrat amongst flyers piloting Catalina flying boats and Diana Ladner an aspiring actress married within 8 months of meeting in 1940. In “We’ve All Life Before Us” we read their letters and diaries, wonderfully edited by Caroline Cecil Bose. Alas it was not to be all life as Flt Lt Keddie plane disappeared in 1942 providing air support for the Arctic Runs.
The intimacy of young love, the hope of their days together, humour and sketches fill the pages, poignant as we know that the writer is to die soon. These and other stories remind us of the everyday struggles of people in Britain and across the world as they fought at home and in the frontlines in World War II. Never Again.
Caroline it was wonderful to hear you talk about this and Mihir read out extracts at the Chiswick Book Fest.
