#ThoughtForTheDay Two things I have learned throughout my career as an educator, Students, like adults, want to be treated fairly & believe that we care about them. I mean truly care about them, even when they let us down. Let's not make it about us. #Culturize

Today students captioned “memes” in ELA! The catch? Each caption had to follow a specific grammar rule or include a grammar component. I’ve never heard so many giggles while practicing grammar. 😍😍🙌🏻

This is WHY we need to support Independent reading in school!
A principal recently told me that some parents don't want their kids "just reading" while at school. He asked what research he could share to show those parents that "just reading" has ACADEMIC benefits. Here it the chart I shared. #DisruptingThinking

Students know when a teacher is real. They have a radar for authenticity. Here's 5 tips to help:
* Admit when you've made a mistake
* Say Thank You
* Don't pretend to know it all
* Listen to them
* Use humor/ stories

1. Take any normal worksheet with review questions.
2. Cut the sheet into slips.
3. Hide those slips in plastic eggs.
Teams collect and egg at random then race back to their team compete to solve as many as they can before time expires! Rinse and repeat. #EDrenaline

Sometimes when reflecting on your practices, the question is as simple as - would you want to be a student in your classroom?
Students learn better in small groups! They have more of a voice, and we can provide targeted instruction! LOVE THIS!
Close reading of text in 5th grade. Groups of students given choice on how to create their own graphic organizers. Amazing thinking! #mciulearns @PV_Schools @pvsouth_eled
@PV_Schools lucky to learn and grow with @MicheleFowkes from #mciulearns today. #gettingtoanalysis Thanks to 4th and 5th grade at @pvsouth_eled.
