I built a working AI computer by hand from Amazon parts for under $10k. It replaced a cloud bill that was pushing $10k a month.

last month i was begging gpu providers for b300s at $7.9/hr
now they're begging me to take them at $4.6/hr, no commitment
something big is happening soon. ai gave us all its dessert and now it's time for the veggies
Jeff Yan, the creator of Hyperliquid, posted this thread about work ethic a week after launching the Hyperliquid closed alpha. Just 2 years later, they surpassed $1B in annual revenue with just 11 employees. You're all welcome to all the work/life balance you want, but this is what you're up against.

2/ Train yourself to go from 10 to 40 to 100 hours of focused work a week. I did this for months building an automated trading system from scratch. 5am-10pm 7days/week
99% of people need #WorkLifeBalance or whatever, and that's great. But I'm talking to the people on a mission.
S&P 500 is -3% off it's all time high and we're getting near daily blowups. What's going to happen when it's -20%? teapawt.org/citrini/status/2116209…
Nasdaq closed down -3.5% today, but only -0.7% in regular trading hours. All action continues to be in the overnight sessions. People who sell 0-DTE at open cannot lose even on a day like today
Entire US economy hinging on junk bonds teapawt.org/financialjuice/status/…
The S&P 500 is now right where it was on June 1. Exactly 6 months of 0.0% returns.
Everyone who hedged using monthly or quarterly index options since May has likely lost all of their premium despite:
- 60% of the S&P 500 constituents are in a bear market
- 85% of the S&P 500 constituents are down -10% or more
- fed rate hike
- rising inflation
- soaring treasury yields
- soaring oil prices
- war
- midterm elections
- 17% yielding CCC junk bonds
- AI company credit default swaps are breaking out and pricing a 30% chance of SoftBank defaulting, 24% chance of Oracle defaulting, 12% chance of Broadcom defaulting and even an 8% chance of Nvidia defaulting
Why has the most popular traditional hedging vehicle failed so spectacularly to hedge the risk, both perceived and real?
- The popularity of the dispersion trade? Firms are shorting volatility in the index to fund longing volatility in its constituents
- 0-DTE options? The massive popularity of same day options pins the index by creating massive put and call walls from dealer hedging flows in the opposite direction of the move
Or something else?
If you're trading something that doesn't trade 24/7 then you're at a disadvantage teapawt.org/tradingESolo/status/21…
Replying to @MichaelPBento
Is NY session ruined forever? Majority of moves with any kind of follow through are overnight or during binary data releases. Or even right after RTH close. So frustrating.
This has been my base case for about a year now. It's a dangerous and expensive view to hold. The game is not predicting what will happen. It's predicting what everyone thinks will happen.

you're seeing a consistent pattern:
- Fortinet: people bought bc of AI cybersecurity 'emergency'. turns out 4q decelerating, management price sensitive. stock -25%
- ServiceNow: AI SAAS transformation requires forward deployed engineers, turns out 4q is decelerating - stock -25%
- Google: spent entire time on TPUs and AI, going FCF negative while its core business (ads) is - you guessed it, decelerating in 4Q. stock -13%
this was after youtube was supposed to be killing Netflix (stock -44% over past year)
- Robinhood: big agentic push, Monthly active users sequentially decelerating.
meanwhile the consumer sector (big ad buyer) is in beast mode. Cheesecake factory 15% comp, Chili's 10%. Norwegian cruise lifts full year guide - passengers up 22% year over year (983k vs 900k expected).
which begs the question: if you have RSI, and AI is the future why are you underperforming fried mac n cheese sales or cruise billings in the middle of a war. like what are you actually investing against
so company after company is going full tilt into AI, and not really getting a return - just as everyone is
1] locking in to multi year memory contracts (which is part of the price sensitivity fortinet noted)
2] going FCF negative
3] ready to absorb $2-4T of public equity issuance from the labs
meanwhile market rejoices when Oracle *cuts back* investment guidance in data centers.
Labs on fund raising roadshows are saying the new demand story is that software and hardware are insecure and need to be completely refactored for AI era. Which is just an expense, with no revenue acceleration - which brings to the macro question of 'is productivity going to accelerate'
right now sub 2.5% - needs to be above 4% sustainably for debt dynamics to work out. if everyone has to rewrite their software to address cyber threat environment, and banks get hacked constantly (which is apparently the bull case for labs?) - you enter unustainable fiscal situation and decelerating growth which was buttressed by AI infra investment which (per Oracle) is likely to decel
even at macro valuation level, China is far ahead of Europe in AI (non controversial). Hang Seng Tech index trades at 10.5x forward PE while French stock market (CAC Index) trades at 14x while Chinese 5 year yield is 1.3% and France is 4.3%
so there's a completely believable world in stocks where you get a lot more inference, and a lot more AI, and multiples decline or costs accelerate. which seems like Blasphemy in SF but if you just listen to public companies seems closer to a base case

"The spread between B and CCC credit has reached nearly 8%, something seen only four other times since 1996. On every previous occasion, the S&P 500 was already at least 11.8% below its 52-week high. Twice, it was down around 30%. Today, the index is just 2% below its highs."

With all the new exchanges for tokenized equities popping up, there is likely to be a lot of opportunity basis trading across exchanges. Some good tips on building them in this article

In hindsight, this whole obsession with beautiful code and comparisons to poetry was pretty silly. I'm glad we're back to focusing on what really matters: correctness, security, perf, memory consumption, etc teapawt.org/thdxr/status/211514141…
It's not just the raw speed though. My threshold for capability is being met broadly, so I've begun to develop preferences over little things like communication style. It's the same thing that happens when you work with a team of super capable humans. You just jibe with some more than others teapawt.org/char_mar_/status/21147…
My favorite coding model right now is GLM-5.3-FlashX from @Zai_org. Prefer it over Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra. All are intelligent enough to do everything I need on a daily basis. Difference is GLM-5.3-FlashX is twice as fast at 200t/s which is a major unlock ⚡️

OpenAI, Anthropic and other leading AI labs face a growing challenge: Better models aren't necessarily attracting more usage. A 10-point intelligence advantage now earns just 20% more developer traffic, down from nearly 69% in late 2025.
