What bugs me about OoT remake is how noisy everything is. Modern game art design is just turning up every effect to prove that you can. It doesn't need so much fog, reflections, particles effects, textures so detailed. Fails to guide the eye through a scene like the original did.

This is what I meant when I said Belmont's Curse plays it too safe. It's a failure of modern game design where designers too often ask the question "does this lower player frustration?" instead of "you know what'd be really fucking funny?"

To add to this, enjoy your hobbies. Not everything has to make you 1000% uber “productive” living a life for everyone but yourself. I see far too many people living in agony and resentment over themselves; feeling guilty for… checks notes… enjoying something (?)
I wanted to be so excited for Rock Band like games coming back but every setlist reveal has been more dire than the last, sucks that I don't even know if I can bring myself to play it at this point.

Don't mistake this for shitting on RS3 btw because it being so mysterious is a big part of its charm. You'll just be wandering around aimlessly and suddenly you're having a high speed battle fighting an evil hotrod riding your own evil hotrod at 100 mph

All I'll say is that I wish the energy everyone's giving to Wolverine were applied to the new God of War games. Nothing I've seen so far is that far apart from everything I disliked about those games and the ones that ape from them

I know y’all slept on that Romancing SaGa 2 remake, but it’s one of the best RPGs of the decade so now’s your chance before the sequel!!
Truly the kind of RPG people always say they miss.

Can't wait for tomorrow when the direct announcer talks about "Square Enix is bringing back this classic RPG!" only for the entire gaming sphere to be flashbanged by Akitoshi Kawazu Presents: Unlimited SaGa Remastered.

Random battles are based in the same way auto scrolling, and timers can be. It's an authority you always have to contend with and it can checkmate you if you are not being efficient or getting greedy. It puts thought into exploration and can justify the placement of rewards.

Silent hill f and Hades 2 have basically destroyed any amount of excitement I could have for games getting post-launch updates that fundamentally change the experience. It feels so antithetical to games as art it pisses me off

Shmups are the closest that humans have come to reaching godhood with video game design. The pure essence of gameplay with the distinct razor-sharp presentation never fails to tap into something primal. Even if for a moment, a successful 1CC you've practiced for ages feels divine

JRPG discourse in the west can be solved if SaGa wasn't an obscure franchise. Pushes turn-based combat to its limit, can't outgrind enemies, no random encounters, status ailments are necessary, minimal cutscenes, and short play length designed around replay value.

I think a combat system can’t be good without good enemy design and I think too many modern games focus too much on what your controlled character can do while enemies bring nothing interesting to the table just exist for you to flex on.
