The Hubballi-Dharwad BRT showcases the potential to offer fast, reliable public transport service at a fraction of the cost of metro construction.

It's difficult to even describe how malevolent this is. The trees were such good shade for those who prefer to walk than to be stuck in the traffic that this road at times has
This stretch of Parklands Road still needs a footpath.

Look at Tanzania planting new roadside trees in Dar Es Salaam. A wild concept @KeNHAKenya
Great to see that TANROADS eventually incorporated cycle tracks in the BRT Phase 3 designs in Dar es Salaam.
It would be great to see @ntsa_kenya share similar messages rather than arresting pedestrians who don’t use footbridges.
Pedestrians First.
Slow down as you approach crosswalks, and stop completely until pedestrians have crossed safely.

This project relies on BRT to move mass populations, yet not a single BRT line has been delivered. Instead, projects like the Nairobi Expressway and the Ngong Road flyover were pushed through, directly consuming the land and right-of-way earmarked for dedicated BRT corridors.
Even though Kenya's Road Design Manual calls for universally accessible designs, the new footpaths on Waiyaki Way have steps at property entrances.
How can @KeNHAKenya improve the designs? Keep the footpaths at the same level, with ramps for vehicles.

The section from James Gichuru to Uthiru has a median reservation for BRT lanes and stations. As part of the works, @KeNHAKenya should complete the BRT infrastructure.

Why the state wants to toll World Bank-funded James Gichuru-Rironi Road
Construction of the road was initially valued at Sh16 billion, with a bigger chunk of the financing coming from the World Bank.

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks.
Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. wapo.st/4yt6dHY
Where are cyclists meant to ride if they cannot use the kerbside lane? Most streets in Kigali do not have cycle tracks.

The introduction of tall median barriers in Mumbai is a very unfortunate move. The older dividers needed universal access treatments but they contributed to a permeable walking environment across the city.
What is Pedestrian First?
Low-rise, surmountable dividers on Main Road, Lokhandwala, Andheri West, are being replaced with insurmountable ones with few , forcing thousands of daily market-goers to use a few designated crossings instead of crossing where convenient and safe. Vehicles often encroach upon zebra crossings and not yield for pedestrians at unsignalized intersections.
Lokhandwala is a busy market street, not a multilane arterial or a highway. It needs frequent crossings and basic footpath improvements, especially for senior citizens. instead BMC is spending money on adding barriers and neglecting the narrow footpaths.
At a time when cities worldwide are rethinking pedestrian-friendly streets, decriminalizing jay walking, making drivers negotiate for space with pedestrians, Mumbai is adding barriers that inconvenience people, need the pedestrian to beg for space on roads of all sizes and in-turn create consistent maintenance expenditures for plant watering and maintenance.
After the unnecessary installation of black guardrails on footpaths, these dividers are becoming a widespread practice that must be challenged. We need to resist this, starting with Lokhandwala.
Where is participatory planning and budgeting? On what basis was this decision made? What is Pedestrian First?
@AndheriLOCA and other local civic groups, please take note. Residents across neighbourhoods, please raise your voice. Repost and share to spread awareness.
Cairo's New Administrative Capital is too spread out for a tram line to provide adequate public transport service coverage.
A better option would be to deploy express buses to link different nodes via the city's extensive highway network.

Motorists in Nairobi usually do not give the right-of-way to pedestrians, so paint is not enough to ensure safety at crossings. We need to incorporate traffic calming to slow down vehicles.
Check out this example of a tabletop crossing from Kisumu.

Kudos @SakajaJohnson for this bold zebra crossings marks along Harambee Ave at the junction with Moi Ave.There is need for more investment in such infrastructures in the CBD to enhance safety of #pedestrians.

While Kenya's new Road Design Manual volume 1.3 clearly states that footpaths should be universally accessible, the Mombasa Road footpaths have steps at property entrances.
Can we ensure that infrastructure designs follow accessibility standards?

This is a 4.5B contract.
More gaps in construction quality: we have kerbstones sinking or falling over on Uhuru Hwy.
Can @KeNHAKenya demand better workmanship from the contractor?
