🧵 The NRC has been operating an illegal nuclear blockade for 50 years and a recent lawsuit might finally bring it to an end. Buckle up...

Does AI have a soul, or are we teaching it to sound like it does?
@MikeCosper @jessebryan , @ckoopman, and @mikeyanderson unpack the debate around Anthropic, the Vatican, and AI personhood.
In this episode:
-Claude’s Constitution and the beliefs being built into AI.
- Why human dignity can’t depend on how smart or useful we are.
- The line between using a tool and turning it into an idol.
- Why people of faith should help build the future, not sit it out.

What is open source software and what does it do for you?
You're using it right now.
Everything you use online every day stands on open source.
98% of web pages viewed worldwide are shown by a browser built on an open-source engine: Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, and others.

You asked, we delivered. The @JoinFAI Field Guide to the Tribes of Silicon Valley is live now.
27 tribes, a few easter eggs, and a 3-minute quiz (just for fun).

Most people throw events so it feels like something happened. But @abundanceinst, we throw them so something big actually does.
We’re taking huge summits, small dinners, roundtables, briefings, receptions. You name it. The biggest rooms we can get and the little ones with six people arguing until someone changes their mind (or the restaurant asks us to leave). We are doing way more of them all, and the clock is already against us.
We need another person on the events team who can make ambitious things happen without becoming the person emailing “just circling back” at 11 p.m. Hundreds of details, none of them the point, but all of them matter. Creative, scrappy, unbothered when the venue falls through, calm when the plans change, and willing to own it all from the first call to the last person out the door.
You’ll help us put the people building a more abundant future in the same room. AI, energy, and the conversations other groups are too scared to host.
Remote is fine. Travel expected. If your vision of the future includes slower timelines and smaller portions, this will make you miserable.

Great work being done by @RepJoshHarder and @RepMaloyUtah in advancing a bipartisan abundance agenda.
An energy-abundant future isn’t red or blue—it’s American. Affordable, reliable, abundant energy is the key ingredient for economic growth, opportunity, and American competitiveness.
Let’s build.

Sam Altman is right.
Shorter version:
FFN(x) = W₂ · σ(W₁x + b₁) + b₂
Is not conscious. Is not a person. Is not a religion. Does not have a soul. Does not have feelings. Does not feel pain.

Case-by-case enforcement does what tort law and prescriptive regulation can't.

In biology, like in cybersecurity, we’ll learn in the coming years that most of the risk is concentrated and created by the few most powerful labs and that open-source AI is the solution and mitigation of this risk!

A lot of the EA AI safety x risk people have avoided talking about the policies they support to address their concerns with AI, but a look at some of the laws that EA orgs do support should send a chill down your spine

.@neil_chilson pointed out that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has been talking about slowing AI for many years—back when ChatGPT could barely make sentences.
"These people have been trying to scare us for a long time at this point I think they're trying to convince everybody that this technology is so powerful that only they are smart enough to control it, and I think we should see through that"
Neil, our head of AI policy, joined @kilmeade on @foxandfriends
“Never,” he says…
I've served in two White Houses and in Congressional leadership, and I can tell you when the last time a CEO or an industry at large asked to be regulated: never. That's what makes Dario's letter so striking — it's an admission that we're driving down a dark, winding road on wet pavement with the headlights off. And where's President Trump? Looks like he nodded off again. It’s time to turn the lights on, put both hands on the wheel, and regain control before it’s too late.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Industries and CEOs have often asked to be regulated. Examples include 19th century railroads, Allstate in 2009, hedge funds and tech companies. washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/305871… fee.org/articles/we-wa… nationalreview.com/corner/be-wary…
