It's hard to ever say you learn a lot about an NBA team in their first game. But I think we learned a lot about the Pacers tonight, and the vast majority of it was incredibly promising.

Some rough Larry Nance Jr minutes there. Early season kinks!

Pacers gonna be so much fun this season. Hali is so much further ahead than most of us imagined he would be.

I think one reality you have to accept in a rebuild is that you might make the wrong decision. Your next HC might be worse! Heck, your next GM might be worse! But you can't stay on the obviously wrong path.
I don’t disagree with Stephen here, but I hope for his sake he goes back to being an OC for a bit. I think there is still a good HC in there with him, but he probably needs some time away from it to self scout what went wrong in Indy for a bit

One of the albums of the decade. Been interesting to reconcile with its increasing relevance as things continue to...well...
DIY lifer Jeff Rosenstock looks back on the 10th anniversary of 'WORRY.' and talks eviction anxiety, Freddie Gray, the New York he left behind, and why the jury's still out on humanity. READ: pastemagazine.com/music/jeff…

Yeah, this is the best articulation I've heard. I don't love throwing the baby out with the bathwater on most things, but Zach is right: Colts should really minimize any further decisions the next GM inherits, instead setting them up to make their own decisions.
I think the best path for the Colts is to shop anyone that won’t be under contract going into this offseason. Let the next GM figure out what they want to do with under contract players. Unless some godfather offer comes in, but I wouldn’t expect that to happen

Not necessarily rooting for Colts to trade Jonathan Taylor, but 1) they should be open to trading anyone, 2) he probably doesn't fit the timeline of their next shot at a franchise QB and 3) as a football fan, it would be *really* fun to watch him play in a serious offense.

I don't think a lot of casual fans realize how good he is when he's not the only player on the offense the opposing defense needs to worry about. Imagine him in Cincy, Chicago or Dallas...

99.9% of you follow me for Colts takes, I guess. Which is cool. Most of the time I just wanna tweet about Russell T Davies series though.

The ROI on Sauce Gardner has somehow been infinitely less than the ROI on Carson Wentz. The only remaining franchise competition is Trent Richardson.
Shane Steichen says that Sauce Gardner’s calf injury leaves him “week to week”, uncertain of his status for this week vs. the Vikings. Alec Pierce, though he’s eligible to come off IR this week, will not practice this week as he continues to rehab his reinjured heel.

Both things true. 1. The Colts should be sellers. 2. The Colts shouldn't sell everyone. They still need players, and $ aren't an issue. If your plan is to have a rookie QB in '28 (sigh) and someone still fits the timeline to ease their entry to NFL, keep them imo.
Colts are absolutely going to be selling at the deadline now. DeForest Buckner is almost certainly going to be moved. Probably Grover Stewart as well. Do they move Quenton Nelson will be the big question. Would be nice having a HOF guard for the next QB and gotta pay someone

This is actually a very well-crafted message. Respect. It was always going provide a short-term dopamine hit, but the emphasis on not delaying the next chapter while keeping pressure on Steichen is pretty smart.
We have relieved Chris Ballard of his duties as General Manager.

One prevailing thought about Ballard era is how often fans have had legitimate concerns (particularly at receiver, EDGE and QB) be arrogantly dismissed by leadership. We're not that far from the Polian era. Fans still know what greatness looks like.

Seeing debate about who Colts pay going forward. It's secondary to who makes that decision, but you gotta pay some guys to be guys. The $20M in space this year clearly isn't doing any work. I pay any decent player who won't cost premium draft capital to replace at similar level.

The next regime needs to learn from Ballard's intro presser downplaying the value of QB, and his crown jewel players being at LG, RB and previously WILL, SLCB. You need EDGEs. You need WRs. And for God's sake, you need a franchise QB! Then the rest can help.
I don’t look at the Colts and think, “there’s talent here. They need better coaching” I see a mess of a roster loaded with mediocre to bad players and almost no difference makers.

Only one Colts postgame thought today: someone has gotta be held accountable if the owner(s) want any purchase with fans. I think that person should be Shane Steichen. Even if it's ultimately just scraps until it's finally Chris Ballard.

Clearly audible on the TV broadcast.
The few Colts fans who are left in the stand are chanting "FIRE BALLARD."

Daniel Jones is just full NYG Jones. Has been for a while. I think one of Jones or Steichen needs to be held accountable for this performance. This is the QB Steichen wanted.

You don't ever wanna see Colts lose to the Titans, but I swear if they go on to win and Steichen et al's messaging is what a gritty win this was versus a tough divisional opponent... (Which is exactly what happens in a franchise that lacks real accountability.)

I actually think firing Shane Steichen could be on the table.
If Colts do go on to lose this game (still doubt they do, although absurd it's now even a question), I think *something* has to happen in-season. Will it change the franchise trajectory? No. But you simply can't stand on this level of unpunished underperformance.
