Reform UK Cllr Alex Sibley of @LBofHavering has been generating AI images of his opponent David Taylor.
One includes his opponent waving the pride flag and offering sexual favours, whilst another portrays him as two women in love with Sibley.
The images have been posted across two accounts that Councillor Sibley uses as a councillor (the Instagram account being named Cllr Alex Sibley).
Havering Council has clear rules governing councillors’ behaviour.
Its Members’ Code of Conduct requires councillors to treat people with respect, while its Social Media Protocol specifically addresses offensive and discriminatory material.
Paragraph 34 warns against using social media to insult, abuse or make discriminatory comments about other council members.
Paragraph 37 warns councillors against uploading or distributing material that could be considered offensive, inappropriate or discriminatory.
Political satire is legitimate. But using homosexuality as a punchline, feminising opponents to ridicule them and making insinuations about sexual favours raise serious questions about discrimination and respect.
Havering’s Monitoring Officer needs to investigate Sibley.
