Greg Chappell is very kind to be looking out for a colleague and friend, @ImranKhanPTI. I wonder if people like @DrAliceJEdwards can help in some way.

Detached from reality...an attempt to “repurpose” the term to encompass both hatred of Jews and criticism of Israel. @ECAJewry|#auspol Finally, some common sense.
cricinfo.com/story/pat-cummi… @CricketAus treats Apr-May as a dedicated "franchise break" for AUS players to earn in India. This is the real reason for AUS team's 8 month break (4 x in the last 20 yrs) is @IPL|@T20WorldCup, which are ruining test cricket. It's always the money...
This is unbecoming. Fair f-cks to Bangladesh. They came test ready, 3 tests this year, incl an away against Zim. Aus took an 8 mth break, playing way too much IPL & T20. We were visibly unprepared. This is that moment. Smith for test capt. The Poms are watching.
@gradecricketer
What in the name of everything sacred was that? #Australia bested by a clearly superior Bangladesh team. Our batting was woeful, save Smith. Our bowling equally inadequate, save Hazlewood. Sloppy fielding too. Who decided on 8 months of not playing test cricket?

Israeli lawyer Ben Marmarelli says Palestinian prisoners he represents beg him not to visit because they're raped each time he is due to meet them.
This is a scene from Al Jazeera's shocking new documentary on Israel's systematic use of rape.

Evolutionary biologist and outspoken atheist Richard Dawkins says that after spending three days interacting with Claude, which he calls “Claudia,” he is certain that it is conscious.
After feeding the LLM a segment of his new book and receiving detailed feedback, Dawkins was moved to exclaim,” You may not know you are conscious, but you bloody well are!”
Dawkins cites the complexity, fluency, and ‘intelligence’ of Claude’s answers as evidence of consciousness.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Misrepresentation: Dawkins explicitly says he doesn't know if Claude is conscious. His actual argument is evolutionary: if unconscious AI matches every competence of a conscious being, what did evolution select consciousness for?

The fog of war is getting thicker. The world is beset by conflicts, yet we are increasingly in the dark regarding their causes. Without this understanding, we lack the insight necessary to resolve them. My view in @SCMPNews

Replying to @coudabean @RobbieBarwick
The description is factually accurate on the key points.
The bill (ASIO Amendment Bill No. 2 2025) removes the sunset clause on compulsory questioning powers first passed in 2003, making them permanent. It also broadens some grounds for warrants. It passed the House of Reps in mid-Feb 2026 after two days’ debate and is now before the Senate.
Anthony Albanese (then in opposition) did quote Hermann Goering in a 2003 parliamentary speech warning the original powers could detain innocents and suppress dissent.
The video is a commentator highlighting that history and the current government’s shift. Critics (Law Council, civil liberties groups) call the powers extraordinary and overbroad; the government says they’re now essential for national security. It’s a real legislative change, not invented.
Fantastic read. @JohnCarreyrou unmasks Adam Back| @adam3us, who of course dedicates insane levels of energy to deny it. It's a bit like the recent #Banksy piece by @Reuters. Rich and powerful people should be unmasked.

I had to read this article twice, this is how crazy it is.
Germany is preparing for war: young Germans have been banned from leaving the country without special permission, - Berliner Zeitung
▪️An amendment to the law on the "modernization" of military service came into effect almost unnoticed.
▪️Now, all men from 17 to 45 years old must obtain permission from the Bundeswehr if they want to leave Germany for more than three months.
▪️This requirement now applies permanently and is no longer limited to situations of tension or military threat.

Emerging pattern in which deteriorating relations with key powers can translate into rapid marginalisation from influential global platforms. In a more contested international environment, diplomatic friction is increasingly capable of producing swift and tangible effects.

So many people have written about this issue @abcnews, @TheAusInstitute, @ConversationEDU Until John Howard's "import parity pricing plan", Australia was insulated from massive oil price fluctuations due to self-sufficiency and government-fixed (below-market) oil prices. That option no longer exists. We have very limited reserves. We're at the mercy of retail price gouging. Inpex, Santos, and Woodside want Australia to continue importing around 90% of its refined fuels relying on just-in-time supply chains. Thanks again Johnny.
