Sad evening for me. I’ve spent years of my life on defeating #HeathrowExpansion but the bastard just will not stop clawing its way back onto the agenda. It’s the clearest indication yet that we may just be incapable of taking climate change seriously and doing what needs to done

A little thread on cycling in London. The experience of a 45 year old, overweight woman - ie me (inspiration provided by @peterwalker99 in his article this morning) ...
It was such a palaver to get this simple thing back but it genuinely means a lot of cyclists can cross the river at Barnes bridge again 🙌
It’s back!!! After months of lobbying, @south_railway has reinstalled the bike ramp they removed earlier this year. We would like to thanks our local councillors and our MP @sarahjolney1 for all their help. Common sense prevails!

To protect nature when biofuel production does occur, the EU must:
🌳 Prioritise nature preservation as a value of land use.
🌡️ Monitor soil health for carbon absorption capacity reduction.
🧑🌾 Improve agricultural practice.

But the EU does not have to sacrifice biodiversity to meet climate goals. To achieve both targets it must:
💸 Invest to scale up e-fuel production.
📉 Reduce fuel demand to ease already immense pressures on biodiversity posed by production to meet existing demand.

Our findings show that:
🌽 Biofuels' extensive land use demand harms biodiversity.
⛽️ Meeting EU aviation and maritime climate goals using biofuels would jeopardise EU 2050 biodiversity targets.
🟢 Only green H2 e-fuels are compatible with biodiversity targets.

ALT The impact on biodiversity of the four main alternative fuels for shipping and aviation between 2030 and 2050 graph. Results demonstrate that between 2030 and 2050 while all fuel mix scenarios have an increasing negative impact on biodiversity, the only fuel mix that is still compatible with EU 2050 biodiversity goals is the 'High E-Fuel' scenario.

🚨New report! 🚨
The EU must decarbonise shipping and aviation – but at what cost to biodiversity?
On #COP29 biodiversity day, our latest research shows that using biofuel production puts biodiversity at serious risk. Only #GreenHydrogen e-fuels limit damage to nature.

London premiere of Buy Now! last night, it lands 3 big pts
- you can't have your planet & eat it
- the appalling corporate trickery & duplicity trapping people in overconsumption hell
- big business will only ever be dragged screaming to do the right thing

Labour can’t meet their climate goals through energy policy alone.
We need systemic transformation to make behaviour change possible - from how we get around to how we heat our homes.

My favourite cycle is getting even longer and better! 🙌
Good news! Our consultation on extending Cycleway 9 between Brentford & Syon Park shows the vast majority of people think it'll enable more people to cycle in the area.
We're now working with @LBofHounslow to update the plans following your feedback.
