1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness. 🧠Hypertension changes how brain blood vessels sense mechanical forces. Overactive Piezo1 disrupts cerebral blood flow and cognition, while Piezo1 inhibition reverses these deficits in mice. ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/… @CircRes

Everyone knows the mitochondria is the "powerhouse of the cell." But have you seen how beautifully its movement was captured by Dr. Patrick C. Hickey in this 5th place #SmallWorldInMotion winning video? 🏆 Now you have! bit.ly/3TgEWKn

🧵 Struggling to replicate a proteomics biomarker study? Our new preprint quantifies one common cause: data leakage. With NO true signal, some runs with data leakage still reached AUCs near 0.8. w/ @_JakeVogel_, Caitlin Finney, Artur Shvetcov & @_neuroproteome

Very excited to announce our new work on CSF in the brain! It has been previously thought that the CSF was one large homogeneous pool, and our work shows that there may be compartmentalization. Thank you to all the co-authors! Paper: nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Our new paper in @Nature is now out. Psychedelics don’t simply disorder the brain. Using fMRI, EEG and AI in 62 psychedelic-naive adults, we found hidden, context-sensitive organisation beneath the apparent chaos -- strongest in people reporting more positive, profound experiences and a reduced sense of separation from the world. The paper: nature.com/articles/s41586-0… Huge congratulations to @dpsyc42 who led from the front, @novelli_leo and @MKhajehnejad were exceptional in performing highly sophisticated and complex data analyses and thanks the whole @ConnectPsi team and collaborators. Our latest out now in @NatureNeuro led by @TrangCao2016 looking at the reproducibility of MRI morphometry phenotypes in psychiatric disorders. We quantify the reproducibility of grey matter volume and cortical thickness differences in Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Autism, and Alzheimer's Disease. AD findings are reproducible; results for the other disorders are not. Bootstrapping suggests increased sample sizes can help for schizophrenia, but very large (i.e, N>1k) samples may be needed for other disorders. Our findings are consistent with a low SNR disease phenotype. Peep the thread and link for more details!

Sensing your body (‘Interoception’) is everywhere in theories of mental health. But when we tested how well hundreds of people sensed their heart and lungs, the link to symptoms was almost nowhere to be found. 💣 🚨New @NatMentHealth paper 🚨🎉 asks why 🧵 nature.com/articles/s44220-0…

Function is not tied to specific brain structures or time scales. The brain is not just a set of parts that each “do their own job”. Instead, networks are multifunctional and active across different speeds simultaneously. doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2535464… #neuroscience

Our first Impact Factor is 3.0 — an important milestone for a new journal. As with most new journals, the first IF is affected by the smaller publication volume in the launch year. Latest citation data are encouraging, and the journal’s IF is set to rise in 2027.
