"This is a big milestone (and) a big step."
ICYMI: Here's how Salt Lake City wants to transform Smith's Ballpark:

I wasn't sure what to expect coming in, but a few things I personally noticed the other night (from a terrific show):
- Lighters > Phones
- Participation was great, especially during Scott Street
- The loudest I've ever heard DC was at the I Know The End scream (RIP my ears)
Could you attend an entire concert for one of your favorite artists without a phone?
That’s exactly what nearly 20,000 fans did Wednesday night at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City to see superstar Phoebe Bridgers perform on her “Lost Weekend” tour.
Read more about the phoneless concert experience in the post below.

This week's storms continue to chip away at Utah's drought.
Some parts of the state are now even out of moderate drought, which hasn't happened anywhere in Utah since March 31 — and soil moisture levels are now at a record for fall #utwx:

We've received a few crazy videos of the rockslide near Bridal Veil Falls, which left plenty of debris, leading to the Provo River Trail closure in the area.
Utah County Sheriff's Office said they have not received any reports of injuries.

Here's more on the closure:

The Provo Canyon Trail is temporarily closed near Bridal Veil Falls due to a rockslide following heavy rainfall.
Crews will work to clear the debris and ensure the trail is safe and passable before reopening.
Please avoid the area. Thank you for your patience.
We already knew some downtown roads would close next year for the Salt Lake Temple reopening. SECC construction will also close a segment of 200 West downtown before that.
Here's a preview of closures and how to navigate them next year:

MAJOR FLOODING: New video coming in from Hurricane, Utah shows just how intense the flooding has become this morning! Gould’s Wash has been running wild this morning, FOR A SECOND TIME THIS SEASON!
"People are concerned."
2 churches next to the proposed SECC still have qualms about construction/elements of the planned district.
SEG says it has already made changes to its plans to accommodate concerns & willing to meet over existing concerns:

Kyle Dubas says Ben Kindel collapsed on team plane about 10 minutes info flight. He regained consciousness after receiving oxygen on the plane.
He was cleared to travel back to Pittsburgh. Two doctors, Nick Bonino and Jason Spezza stayed with him in Utah.
SLC estimates this will be a 5-6 project (goal to end before 2034) similar to City Creek.
The only buildings I’m aware of that are mostly going down is the Salt Palace and UMOCA, but that’s also like multiple blocks just with the current setup
Replying to @cwilliamsKSL
To build an underground garage would take years. City Creek took 5, and they demolished and cleared entire blocks to dig down. What properties would need to be taken down just to do this?
I finally have a clearer answer to this from various sources and, yes, the pedestrian plaza has been replaced with a connection to an underground parking system similar to City Creek.
300 West will be left at grade, with tunnel entry points in the center (as seen here)
More SLC development news --> SLC Council has adopted the new zoning map for the Smith's Ballpark redevelopment area. Max height is MU-8 (not MU-11 as originally envisioned). Open space will be at least 5 acres, at least .2 acres above the original plan
The new zoning map:

More on the sudden abandonment of a special assessment area for the Sugar House Business District, more than 5 years after 2 Sugar House groups requested to launch something similar to the Downtown Alliance:

Update on the Sugar House Business District plan --> Sugar House Community Council & Chamber are ending their effort for a new assessment area, formally requesting a withdrawal last week.
City officials said economic stresses were a big factor in the decision
I wrote about that process picking up steam earlier this year, which would have created something similar to the Downtown Alliance for the Sugar House business district

A spokesperson for SLC International Airport confirmed to me that the plane returned to SLC after takeoff, adding that it has since refueled and departed.
A statement from the Pittsburgh Penguins

ALT Statement graphic that reads: The Pittsburgh Penguins team plane returned to the Salt Lake City International Airport today shortly after takeoff due to a medical episode involving forward Ben Kindel. Team physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas of UPMC, as well as the team’s medical staff were on board and immediately attended to Ben. An ambulance was waiting upon arrival, and he was taken to the University of Utah Hospital for further evaluation. Ben is conscious, alert and in stable condition. The health and safety of our players, as well as the privacy for their families, are our top priority. The team will provide further updates when appropriate.
