The economics of nuclear energy SMRs and MMRs remain challenging. But at 10% of current costs, they could become viable. At Daratha Atomics, our aim is to deploy nuclear energy at India scale and India prices, benefiting 5 billion people worldwide.
Why the growing interest in SMRs and MMRs? Rising energy demand, energy security and the potential for factory manufactured reactors that are faster and more affordable to deploy.
Countries including the US, China, Russia, India, Canada, France, the UK, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, Denmark and the Netherlands are developing these technologies.
At Daratha Atomics, we're working to develop India's first 10 MWe nuclear energy microreactor, with the ambition of manufacturing and deploying them at India scale and India prices for the world.
There are over 150 small modular reactor (SMR) designs being developed worldwide, but only a handful have reached construction or beyond.

Most of these projects are being developed by established companies or government institutions. Only a few are led by startups.
India has decades of nuclear energy engineering experience, but no Indian design appears on this particular list. At Daratha Atomics, we're working to change that by developing a standardised, factory manufactured 10 MWe Integral Pressurized Water Reactor in India. The opportunity is enormous.
India’s friend in Southeast Asia, Vietnam, is making nuclear energy a national priority, advancing plans for its first 2.4 GW power plant. Great to see more countries embracing nuclear energy. A huge opportunity for India to build technology for the world.
31 countries operate nuclear power plants today. 35+ more are exploring nuclear energy. But few have the talent, technology or supply chains to build their own reactors. A massive opportunity for India.
India needs more builders like these 20 yr olds, not people who simply complain, protest, create chaos and stall progress. That's our motto at Daratha. Build and make things happen.
Spent 4 days in Bangalore with the new @india2047vc cohort. Look at these 20 yr olds building satellites, new mapping systems, defence tech, and tools to 10x scientific research. Their ambition and optimism give me hope for India's future.
The US Army has selected five vendors and sites for nuclear energy microreactors. At Daratha Atomics, we’re the first startup in India building similar microreactors.
Congratulations to @VivekGRamaswamy and Atlas Atomics! America’s deep capital markets make funding like this possible. At Daratha Atomics, we aim to build nuclear energy at India scale and India prices, potentially benefiting 5 billion people worldwide.
NPCIL and BARC have released the DPR for SMR-55, an indigenous 55 MWe PWR for data centres, industry and remote locations. At Daratha, we’re developing a 10 MWe PWR for similar applications. Great to see India building indigenous nuclear energy capabilities across reactor sizes.
Important step for India’s nuclear energy industry. BARC and NPCIL are developing a 55 MWe PWR for data centres, industry and remote applications. At Daratha, we’re pursuing the same thesis at 10 MWe: proven PWR technology, made smaller, standardized and manufactured in India. Many reactor sizes will have a role to play in India's mission for 100 GW nuclear energy by 2047.
Who will fund India’s nuclear energy startups? A question we think about every day as we build Daratha.
We’re building India’s first 10 MWe nuclear energy microreactor, and we’re the first nuclear energy startup in India to open source our designs and engineering basis. Let’s chat 👉 daratha.com/
This has been India’s growth formula for the past 20 years: $0.82T × (1.082)²⁰ ≈ $4T GDP
If India simply repeats this for the next 21 years: $4T × (1.082)²¹ ≈ $21T GDP
But we think India can grow at 10%: $4T × (1.10)²¹ ≈ $30T GDP
An economy of that scale will need a lot more energy. India has set a target of growing its nuclear energy capacity from 8.8 GW today to 100 GW by 2047.
At Daratha Atomics, this is the mission we’re signed up for: helping build the nuclear energy capacity India will need to power its journey to 2047.
We are building a 10 MWe nuclear energy microreactor in India, and we’ve made our technical whitepaper public. We want engineers, researchers and the nuclear energy community to challenge our assumptions, give us feedback and help us build it better.
Today we are making history by becoming the first Indian nuclear energy startup in India to open source the technical whitepaper for our 10 MWe microreactor. Please read it, challenge it and help us improve 👉 daratha dot com
