And now onto the next phase, where I run a small but mighty national nonprofit that works to inspire people of all ages to protect and steward our high mountain snowscapes. Advice, complaints, spiritual and financial support welcome. @winterwildlands winterwildlands.org/david-pa…

"We want a public meeting. We don't want an 'open house'." "Hear! Hear!" Taos locals push back on fast-track @CarsonNF process to approve high-impact commercial development @TaosSkiValley (mutiny at 35:11). The process is broken. @RepTeresaLF @TeamHeinrich youtube.com/watch?v=iRCH9L_U…
Public comment on Draft EA for proposed Taos gondola project extended to May 15. Serious concerns re water, sewage, public access for hikers, fishermen and bc skiers... At min let's demand full EIS w/ range of alternatives. @winterwildlands @Gabe_NM fs.usda.gov/project/?project…

There are so many better, more practical, more cost effective and immediate (and less environmentally impactful) ways to start tackling traffic in LCC than to build a billion-dollar boondoggle.

UDOT has opened yet another, and crucial, comment period. This one pertains to whether building a gondola would violate the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule (RACR).

These guys are always stepping up to the podium with calls for “resources” when it’s way too late, after making a career out of blocking funding.

The @Interior has announced plans to restore healthy populations of American bison across our nation’s grasslands. We are pleased to see these steps to restore our #publiclands which will have benefits across the board for climate, plants, wildlife, outdoor recreation and Tribes.

As we look to the next 50 years of conservation, the transformational funding in @POTUS’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act will help us move forward with the far-reaching Restoration and Resilience Framework. doi.gov/pressreleases/interi…
This morning’s dawn run to Reno to pick up first three cases of #ski_kind mountain lager currently on weather hold. Auspicious start to a month-long ski road trip?
Sustainability, stewardship and skinny skis. Love it. Usually the story is about snowmobiling from town to town.

The ongoing storm is one of the most impressive in history for the southern 1/3 of California.
- @mthigh saw 65" of snow in 24 hours (2" shy of CA record)
- All-time rainfall records set in San Joaquin Valley
- 5-10" of rain in Hollywood area
- Accumulating snow down to 1,000'
Where should I post all the super rad pics of me sitting (and too infrequently standing) at my desk?
Privilege: spent Sunday shoveling snow, put ski boots on at 3p, 4 laps on Chair 22, deep refills in Avy 3 then followed rope line out to the tail for fresh tracks down to LMR. Skied down the road to the tunnel, skinned up, walked home through twilight woods for dinner.
Through radical climate change, drought and war, skiing abides!

Who’s got a great idea for how to motivate people to clean up after their dogs on public trails? (And to not leave their little plastic poop bags behind?)
Leaning into natural climate solutions: good week for the Tongass and the Boundary Waters. #ClimateActionNow
Today we finalized protections for the Tongass National Forest which repeals the 2020 Alaska Roadless Rule and restores longstanding roadless protections to 9.37M acres of roadless areas that support the ecological, economic & cultural values of SE Alaska: usda.gov/media/press-release…

ALT Quote from Secretary Vilsack that says, "As our nation’s largest national forest and the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world, the Tongass National Forest is key to conserving biodiversity and addressing the climate crisis. Restoring roadless protections listens to the voices of Tribal Nations and the people of Southeast Alaska while recognizing the importance of fishing and tourism to the region’s economy." @UsdaForest recognizing mining and development as a poor choice compared to "the protection and preservation of cultural resources, wilderness character, water quality, scenic integrity, important wildlife corridors, and high-quality recreation values." nationalparkstraveler.org/20…
But we need to start looking at every unit of our national forest system through this lens. How much can we protect and how quickly? We need to elect folks to Congress who will codify these protections. nature.org/en-us/what-we-do/…
