A Bastrop woman got pistol-whipped and robbed. Police had nothing except a time and a place, and a description of a car.
They pulled the plate off a Flock camera and found the man. One of many such cases in Bastrop.
Bastrop runs 12 cameras for a total of $36,000 a year.
Camera data auto-deletes every 7 days. Searches get logged to a case number and a reason (that can then be reviewed by citizen inquiries). Policy is explicit that a “hit” on a car is not enough to arrest or even stop anyone. The chief says there has not been a single misuse incident since Flock contract began in 2023.
Bastrop City Council just voted to remove Flock from the city.

They should all be ashamed of themselves today. Kathy,Chas, Chris Harris and other activists cry about “racist improperly trained” cops effectively shutting down the APD academy for an extended period of time…causing staffing shortages and resignations. @CLEAT
New Term Agnorant.
Definition: People who are extremely ignorant, yet are simultaneously extremely arrogant.
Example: People who think they know more about policing than the police experts.

You decimated APD now you cheer. Can’t have it both ways.
I’m horrified and heartbroken by the mass shooting today in downtown Austin.
As we mourn those we’ve lost, let us also pray for those still in critical condition.
I’m thankful to Austin’s police, EMS, nurses, and doctors who saved lives.
We must end America’s gun violence epidemic. Americans should be able to have fun at a bar without it turning into an unspeakable nightmare like this one— and I will redouble my efforts in Congress to prevent the next tragedy like this.

I read Roy’s reasons for voting against the bill and I agree with some of them. But what is his alternative? Nothing that I could see. Sooo, he votes to destroy our economy because he didn’t get 100%? Childish - not brave or principled

More than 100 felony cases since 2021 had bonds modified or charges dropped as a result of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office missing indictment deadlines, a KXAN investigation found so far. READ MORE: kxan.com/investigations/trav…

Great news! SB 1637 was voted favorably from the Senate committee on criminal justice! Making it impossible for rogue DAs like @JosePGarza to weaponize the deadly conduct statute against law enforcement officers doing their job!
We are local and consent calendar! Thank you, @PhilKingTX ! @CLEAT

Proud to have championed bringing back license plate readers to the police department. Without this critical tool, crimes like these would have been more difficult to solve: cbsaustin.com/news/local/lic…

Over the last few days, Texas DPS has remained on standby in order to assist the UT Police Department with maintaining the peace on the UT Austin campus. Today, DPS personnel provided support with the on-campus protest as requested. There were no arrests made by DPS personnel.
