A Bastrop woman got pistol-whipped and robbed. Police had nothing except a time and a place, and a description of a car.
They pulled the plate off a Flock camera and found the man. One of many such cases in Bastrop.
Bastrop runs 12 cameras for a total of $36,000 a year.
Camera data auto-deletes every 7 days. Searches get logged to a case number and a reason (that can then be reviewed by citizen inquiries). Policy is explicit that a “hit” on a car is not enough to arrest or even stop anyone. The chief says there has not been a single misuse incident since Flock contract began in 2023.
Bastrop City Council just voted to remove Flock from the city.

Over the last few days, Texas DPS has remained on standby in order to assist the UT Police Department with maintaining the peace on the UT Austin campus. Today, DPS personnel provided support with the on-campus protest as requested. There were no arrests made by DPS personnel.

This is what your Austin officers deal with on a regular basis. Someone who is too much of a coward to show their face, berating officers who put their lives on the line to protect his first amendment rights. He doesn’t know these officers. They haven’t done anything to him. Yet he spews hatred at them.

So today I saw @JosePGarza in the RICOH stadium club at DKR at an event exclusively for UT Football letterman and their guests during the Orange and White spring game. (FTR I am a proud T-Man). He obviously was a guest of someone I had guests of my own. What was interesting he had his security detail of 1 investigator with him and having done execution protection at the end of my career the way this guy carried himself was embarrassing. Untucked polo shirt with his gun and badge out. Couple things. First not sure DA needed security at this function. Second his investigator should have worn a jacket or a sport coat to conceal his gun. Pretty obvious he hasn’t gone to any type of protection school.
