I've started to dabble in digital electronics. I decided to document the experience on a YouTube channel: youtube.com/@dmoisset If you are curious about watching me be a newbie at circuits and YouTubing, you might enjoy it. Hopefully, some of the content is educational, too.

To be fair, he knew that if he wanted to be added to the group chat, computers would have to be invented first so he started at that point. That's called playing the long game

"A calculator app? Anyone could make that." Not true. A calculator should show you the result of the mathematical expression you entered. That's much, much harder than it sounds. What I'm about to tell you is the greatest calculator app development story ever told.

I am predictably triggered by this 1 billion loops benchmark thing. If you vectorize the Python, it's ~10x faster than Rust, C, etc. With less code! The point here is _not_ that Python itself is fast. It's not! The point is that Python makes this accessible, and even the norm!

Building stuff with 555 timers is the "Hello World" of electronics. And I've seen the datasheet of modern 555 versions, but I just came upon the original datasheet from Signetics (1973) and... wow Where do I have to sign to get cartoons in *every* datasheet?

I wonder if it can count the Rs in strawberry 🍓
o1 successfully writes a very difficult poem that no previous model got even close to writing I was very shocked by this. The planning and reflection that succeeding at this task takes is insane. Inference-time compute is very cool

They can quickly cover this gap by acquisition. I'm sure that somewhere there's a startup which is "like tinder, but for hydroelectric dams"

I designed and assembled my first circuit board a couple of months ago, so I've officially moved from software into the physical realm. I've documented some of the journey in my yt channel if you're curious: youtube.com/watch?v=KCs7b8GO…

Some of our engineers are at @europython the week! If you bump into any of them, ask about our community of #Python 🐍 developers, how we use it in our applications, our recent #opensource projects (#PyStack & #Memray), and open opportunities with our teams #EuroPython2024

I'm glad Duolingo is able to translate bear French, I wouldn't be able to understand it otherwise

A new LLM benchmark: the crapness ratio.
It is well known that ChatGPT is bad at problems to do with crossing a river with animals. So to make things more interesting, define its crapness ratio to be the ratio between its answer and the correct answer. Can anyone beat the crapness ratio of 5 that I've just achieved?
