Terminally ill adults ( end of Life) bill. My thoughts. Any bill should be about ensuring great palliative care for everyone at their most vulnerable time , not deliberately and unnecessarily ending someone’s life prematurely. 1.

This is an interesting flex from a man who's presence Putin salivates over. The United Kingdom, and its security and diplomatic heft is a major reason for why the Russians are pinned back in the High North. And John Swinney's answer is to smash it apart...

Is Donald Trump a Russian asset? I only ask because, over the weekend, it all went rather beyond a joke. Writing on Truth Social, the president made the wicked allegation that the Ukrainian leader was prolonging the war for financial gain. “Zelensky doesn’t care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him... he doesn’t want to end this war, and probably never did,” he ranted. This latest jibe at the Ukrainian president is the result of a shameful run of events. First, the White House undermined its own sanctions to secure a diesel deal with Russia in the apparent hope of reducing Trump’s losses at the mid-term elections (while greatly strengthening Vladimir Putin’s hand in Ukraine). Second, the president announced a fictitious “energy ceasefire”, after which the president pressured Zelensky into halting his attacks on Russian oil infrastructure by curbing intelligence sharing and murkily disrupting Elon Musk’s Starlink service. In the midst of all this, Trump signed an executive order delaying a bi-partisan sanctions package on Russia. Named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham, it targeted officials, banks, energy traders and oil apparatus. While suppressing it, the president cited the American national interest, which apparently is now best served by enabling the free world’s enemy to gain power. This was not a one-off period of indulgence of the Kremlin, produced to alleviate political pressure at home. That would be bad enough, but no: it is part of a very well-established pattern... CAA is aware that a group with extremist views is organising protests across the UK on 20th November under the umbrella of a wider “International Youth Day of Action”. The planned demonstrations led by International Youth Strike appear to be a copycat protest in response to the ongoing riots in France. The police keep refusing to restrict or ban Palestine hate marches because they don't cross the threshold of “serious disruption”, no matter how predictable the criminality or number of arrests they end up having to make. But this protest, explicitly inspired by violent riots in Europe that have attacked businesses, burned down schools and town halls and targeted Jewish institutions, must surely meet the bar. Rioters in France ransacked a synagogue and there are multiple reports of other Jewish sites being hit, showing once again that Jews are fair game. This protest is being advertised with the colours of the Palestinian Authority flag, so it's as clear as day what it portends, and the authorities must act preemptively.

Insufficient PPE and people discharged untested into care homes caused the covid virus to spread like wildfire. The care sector exposed by the Scottish Government because of a lack of pandemic planning. xitter.cf/STVNews/status/2112508…

Ever since October 7, I have been arguing in earnest, whether in my books or my columns, that the global Gaza movement is not about the Palestinians at all. It is not even just about Israel. Rather, it is coming for us all. I have lost count of the number of times, for example, I have drawn people’s attention to the vandalism of the statue of Winston Churchill by the Gaza mobs. Don’t they see? They do not. Ed Miliband and his ilk have dismissed my warnings as “racist” while aligning our foreign policy with the very forces that are trying to kill us, amid a stench of self-congratulation, luxury moralism and appeasement. Well, I told you so... New post. Link in first reply

Surprise surprise
🇫🇷🇷🇺 French intelligence agencies have confirmed that Russia-linked bot networks are weaponizing the past weekend's violent riots by flooding social media with old, recycled, and AI-generated fake videos of police brutality to provoke the rioters even further. Russian networks like "Matryoshka" are acting as digital opportunistic arsonists, intentionally exaggerating the scale of the chaos to simulate nationwide civil unrest.

This is both sobering and horrific. Surely there is something we can do with reusing fibres instead of this? It’s cotton and wool for me from now on, though I probably have enough clothes to do me for the rest of my life.
There is a mountain of unworn clothes in the driest desert on earth, large enough to be photographed from space. It grows by 39,000 tons a year and almost none of it will ever rot. The Atacama, in northern Chile, is a place where it may not rain for a decade. On its edge is a duty-free port called Iquique. Every year about 59,000 tons of clothing arrives there from Europe, America and Asia. It is last season's stock that never sold, and the bags people leave at charity shops. Dealers pick through it for anything they can resell across South America. Two thirds of it is worthless. Nobody will pay to ship it back out, so lorries drive it into the desert at night and tip it. The local landfill refuses to take it. The reason given is that the clothing does not biodegrade and is full of chemicals. Most of it is polyester, which is plastic, and in a place with no rain and no soil life it will lie there for centuries. Some of it is set alight, and the smoke drifts over a town of 100,000 people. In 2025 a Chilean court ruled that the dumps had done serious damage to the land. For most of history this could not have happened. Clothes were wool, linen and leather. They were worn out, handed down and patched, and at the very end a rag merchant paid for the scraps. In Yorkshire, from 1813, old woollens were shredded and spun into new cloth. Anything left went on the fields, where wool breaks down in months and feeds the grass. Nobody ever had to find a desert for worn-out wool. We invented a fabric that cannot die, and then we started making it to be thrown away.
