ALT 5 Years later, Covid still Harms T cells Anthony J Leonardi, MBBS, PhD Mar 06, 2025 Together, these studies demonstrate that COVID-19 harms T cells in multiple ways: it depletes naive T cells, impairs CD8+ T cell functionality, and drives chronic exhaustion and dysregulation, particularly in long COVID. These effects persist beyond the acute phase of infection and differ from the transient T cell changes seen with many other viruses contrary to the claim that "COVID does not harm T cells."

ALT Screenshot of an article published yesterday at Nature Medicine that reads: Cognitive deficits after COVID-19 associated with brain injury biomarkers and volume loss. Behind the paper: Research questions about the effect of COVID-19 on the brain were formulated early in the pandemic and focused on acute brain inflammation, infarction, demyelination and psychiatric complications. However, it rapidly became apparent that many patients were describing lasting cognitive impairment. The research focus rapidly realigned to address to what extent these subjective complaints could be confirmed by objective measurement and whether neurobiological evidence existed on brain imaging and injury biomarkers.
