A developer wants to destroy one of the last remaining riverside meadows beside the Roding in London. 11 acres of rapidly rewilding meadow, a haven for nature in an urban area, where kingfishers nest, kestrels & bats take flight & all manner of insects, butterflies & amphibians live, is proposed to be bulldozed to create a crazy golf course. This despite the fact that there are already *two* existing golf courses within a few hundred metres of this site! The meadows used to be a publicly accessible playing field, but the person behind the development appears to have locked it up & allowed rubbish & flytipping to proliferate to make this site look ugly & unused; & thereby justify its destruction. I have been helping local residents to organise a campaign to ‘Save the Roding Meadows’ & they’ve done so much in a short space of time. Last weekend, they showed the power of community & organised a work day to do the landowners job for them and clean up the large amount of rubbish in the meadows. You can help them in their efforts by taking a moment to share this post and sign and share their petition: change.org/p/wanstead-park-w… If you live anywhere locally (in LB Redbridge or along the Roding) any additional objections to the local authority would be really helpful. The application is below, & you can use this link to log objections via the portal. The deadline is this Friday (4th October): planning.redbridge.gov.uk/re… Residents have compiled an example letter setting out the key objections at this link. Feel free to use, but personalised letters are preferable if at all possible: docs.google.com/document/d/1… Fingers crossed that the depth of care felt by local people for nature can save this irreplaceable meadow from destruction.

Isn't it time to give moles more legal protection? Should 'molecatchers' be a thing of the past? The killing of this much loved native mammal is shockingly inhumane and unnecessary. Retweet if you agree. #loveformoles #moles #ecosystem #biodiversity

In July, decisions were made by @NENorthWest which has resulted in an unprecedented outcome in modern times. 0.5ha of the Dee Estuary SAC is now set to be destroyed on Wirral. @WildJustice_org have been helping to reverse this nationally significant precedent. PLEASE RETWEET!

Those wondering why Nadine Dorries has not yet quit her £84k role need look no further than the fact that when she does, both of her daughters, Philippa, her ‘constituency caseworker’ on £45k & Jennifer, her ‘senior secretary’ on £40k would also have to quit their expensed roles

While their stock is high, I thought I'd announce the release of my book, charting my quest to see all of the UK's Clearwings in a single season. Aiming for publication just before Christmas. 🤞

In less than a week, on the 21st March @CambsCC will vote on whether to DESTROY its largest traditional orchard. A HABITAT OF PRINCIPAL IMPORTANCE, a 1000 trees, for a £200m tarmac road for buses. A loss @greatercambs claim can be “lessened to non-significant” in 30 years by “mitigation”, it cannot. Media, shine a light on those who have a vote so that we, and the generations behind us, who will have to pay for their decision, can bear witness 🌳🚌❌🐝 #TippingPoint #Ecocide #ClimateCrisis #Biodiversity Loss #CostOfLivingCrisis 🖊 change.org/p/save-the-green-… teapawt.org/unbiodiversity/s…
Apple trees benefit all sorts of wildlife, but traditional orchards are now rare in the UK – around two thirds have been lost since 1960. So please plant apple trees to help bats, birds, butterflies and bees! Advice: bit.ly/3GHhgob Via @LGSpace

So, I find myself 30ft in the air up a tree in Wellingborough- surrounded by police, security & tree surgeons- trying to prevent an illegal tree felling. How did I end up here? Here’s an outrageous story of nature destruction & collusion between authorities & private developer 🧵

Next year, please let the dandelions grow! They support over 50 insects species. They're a great early season food source for pollinators including bees, butterflies and hoverflies. No need to mow. And please don't use weedkiller. RT if you're on board 🐝

⁦@PortsmouthWater⁩ here is your gang of mowers and strimmers destroying the pumping station in Evelegh Rd. Sadly wiping out Common Spotted, Pyramidal and Bee Orchids. Please - why can’t you leave it unmown for the flowers and insects? ⁦@HantsIWWildlife⁩
