Elon Musk reveals Tesla demand is “exceeding our production by a significant margin,” with FSD the biggest driver, and he’d “be surprised” if EU-wide FSD approval takes longer than Q1
“So the third quarter was very strong, and I’d like to give a big congratulations to the whole Tesla team for working hard to make it happen. Demand is growing rapidly for our vehicles. It’s exceeding our production by a significant margin, and obviously we’re going to be ramping, and we are ramping production meaningfully. The biggest driver for demand is Full Self-Driving. And today there’s really no competitor for FSD in any car that you can buy.”
“And to be clear, we are producing and delivering as many cars as we can, and we’re pushing very hard for FSD approval in additional markets. We’re now approved in many countries in Europe and we’re hoping for an EU-wide approval. It’s hard to predict, but maybe within a few months, but I would be surprised if it takes longer than Q1. But obviously that’s not a timeframe we control, but we do anticipate being fully approved throughout Europe and many other countries.”
Elon Musk says there's no AI demand issue and explains why SpaceX rents its compute on short-term contracts: AI compute is worth more per watt every year, renewals are coming in at higher prices, and the market is a “cheese shop” with no chips left
“Our belief is that the value of compute per watt will increase over time, not decrease. And the reason for that, I think it should be obvious to people really, is that as you improve the AI software, as the models get better and better, they’re able to, you get more useful intelligence per watt. And the value of that compute is proportionate to the useful intelligence per watt. And that’s why you see things like even old computers like H100s renting for more than they rented when they were new.”
“And I think that’s likely to continue. I think we’re going to face a shortage of superintelligence compute. And that shortage is going to remain for a long time. So, I think the smart move is to do short-term contracts and to essentially place the bet on useful intelligence per watt increasing rapidly, which obviously is done, so that’s what’s happened so far.”
“And also if you look at, say, how are our short-term contracts renewing? Are they renewing at higher dollars per watt or lower? And we see them renewing at higher dollars per watt, not lower dollars per watt. We are also frankly hounded relentlessly by every hyperscaler and by dozens of smaller companies to rent more of our compute. So we could rent out our compute several times over if we said yes to everyone. That’s just the situation here.”
“That’s why I posted that sort of video meme of the Monty Python cheese shop sketch where the guy goes into a cheese shop to get some cheese and they actually have no cheese. And so he goes like, what about this kind of cheese? What about that kind of cheese? And they really just don’t have any cheese.”
“So we’ve actually tried to offload some of our inference compute to other cloud providers so that we can use more compute for training. And we get the cheese shop sketch. You know, they’ll say, like, well, we’ll ask them about what about some, you know, GB300s? Nope, don’t have any of those. What about, you know, some GB200s? Nope, don’t have any of those. What about some TPUs? Nope. What about some Trainiums? Nope. What about some, okay, how about some H100s? And like, well, we might have some overseas somewhere and then they’ll check and come back and say, nope, we don’t have that either. So it’s like ridiculous.”
“Yeah. So I don’t think we’re going to have a demand issue here. And like, it’s not impossible. I’m not saying this will happen. It’s not impossible that we will have a six-month payback period for compute next year.”

Elon Musk on Optimus:
"There's like 10,000 things that have to go right for production of the robot and it'll move as fast as the slowest, least lucky of the 10,000."
Early production has started on the high-volume line in Fremont. Elon expects it to take "at least a year, maybe a little longer" to reach 20,000 units a week.

Mark Zuckerberg says compute is "one of the biggest constraints" on Muse: it’s expensive enough to run that Meta hasn’t launched it globally, even with 10 million sign-ups in the US and Canada alone
“Right now for Muse, one of the things I pointed out is we have more than 10 million people in the US and Canada who have set it up."
"But I think one of the biggest constraints so far is that because this is a compute intensive service to run, we have not launched it globally yet. That’s partially because of wanting to optimize it for each place, and there’s some work around connectors for that, but it’s partially that we want to make sure that we do this efficiently.”
“So there’s pros and cons there. The pro of course is that that just makes it even more impressive that you have 10 million people using it and signing up to use it in the first six weeks, because those are all Americans and Canadians in a small number of markets. So if we actually did roll it out more broadly, then you would expect that number to be significantly larger than what we’re seeing today. But then on the flip side, we actually have to go do the work to bring the efficiency in line to make that make sense.”
Mark Zuckerberg says Muse users already bring Meta “several hundreds of dollars” a year each across its family of apps, and Muse itself should eventually earn even more per user, mostly through fees on the shopping it handles
“From a business perspective, the average revenue per American user for our existing Muse users is, sorry, for our existing family of apps users is several hundreds of dollars annually."
"And we expect that Muse will reach an even higher level over time due to the amount of commerce that we already see taking place. This will take some time, but we’re starting to work on this now."
"Our business model will have a few components. For most people, the product should be free and we will build commerce tools. So we get paid a fee based on the transactions that we help facilitate. We expect this will be paid for by businesses."
"For people who want the most advanced models or to use extra tokens, they subscribe directly and pay. For business owners who want additional features to use Muse to grow their businesses or for companies that want people to use Muse for work, they will be able to subscribe directly and pay as well."
"And for those who want Muse to help improve the personalization and quality of their content and ads across Meta, they will be able to connect to those experiences as well."
"Just to clarify, the average revenue that I was talking about before is the family of apps revenue for our existing Muse users.”
