I feel this so strongly. We all think we have time and are invincible or even immortal. Death and sickness do not concern us until we are confronted with it. May she rest in peace.

China has gotten ahead of the US in biotechnology, largely by making their clinical trial system more effective. I covered this in a @nytimes article.
Now, American patients are travelling there to have access to drugs they can't access at home. It's high time the US woke up and implemented much needed reforms.
"She had been through chemotherapy and surgery, but the cancer had now spread to her brain. And she didn’t qualify for the relevant clinical trials.
“Too bad she’s not Chinese,” a doctor told her son... “She could go to a pharmacy in China and buy it.”

Half of my classmates are not married nor have children. Among them a 38 year old dancing to K pop videos half naked, another is completely into travelling, yet another is trying to maintain a female counselling business including smelling salts. Me as a late mother inbetween.
Hard to read but I wish I had mine in my mid 20‘s. Just for the longer time I would have known them for. In hindsight waiting till my 30‘s was madness.

Reminds me the Swiss joke:
A German walks into a Swiss bank, leans over the counter, and whispers nervously: “I want to withdraw 10’000 euros." The Swiss banker looks at him and replies in a normal, booming voice:
"You can speak up, sir, poverty is no shame in Switzerland

While everyone is talking about longevity, thousands of devastating diseases like ME/CFS, MS and Dementia still have no cure or even a single approved treatment.
I don’t care about living to 100. I’d be perfectly fine with dying at 75, or even earlier, if it meant I could actually live the years I have in good health.
Quality of life matters more than quantity.

I think that this is a very important article. With time, we are likely to see medical cities in China going providing access to new medicines to patients globally. Not sure why nobody is working on such a mega project yet.
In 2019, I travelled to Hainan with my friend Wei-Wu He and @Dr_Bischof to see the local hospitals and even thought about setting up a site there as I thought that some form of plaque was inevitable and living on the island would be a benefit (btw. it hit 2 weeks after my trip to Hainan and it turned out that being on the island makes no difference). I saw massive hospital overbuild with massive and mostly empty hospitals. I wonder if it has changed - need to ask someone in Hainan.

Germany is considering an AI tax in all seriousness.
It's hurts to live in a country where the political elites have no f*ing clue about anything.

I fear for the Telegraph.
The new German owners are taking a wrecking ball to a fine journalistic institution by sacking 100 journalists ( despite saying they would invest) and pushing out the door the only names worth reading, the latest being the brave and super talented Alison Pearson.
All in favour of cutting costs but what is their big idea?
Some old nonsense about more foreign news (nobody will pay for that) and turning the Telegraph into a global behemoth.
That definitely won’t happen.
My advice is to take a tip from the financially successful Times;
Invest heavily in journalism and journalists, disclose information not available elsewhere, keep your good writers fed and watered.
I know there is nobody at the Telegraph, from the Editor downwards not concerned at their future and the future of the title.
These are tough times for the media, not made easier by these owners destroying their own £600million investment and the enjoyment of their readers.

It's impressive that after 650 years of failure to integrate into Hungarian, Romanian or Slavic cultures, Roma people are successfully being found to have integrated into British society just by getting hooked on hard drugs and going robbing.
